Josh Allen Faces One Growing Concern As Bills Head To LA

As Josh Allen prepares to take on the Rams' formidable defense in Week 5's Monday Night clash, all eyes are on him to see if he'll sustain his touchdown momentum despite recent setbacks.

Josh Allen heads into Week 5 carrying the kind of production that keeps Buffalo dangerous and the kind of ball security issues that can undo it in a hurry.

The Bills meet the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football, and Allen has put together a multi-touchdown run through the first four games of the season. He has scored multiple times in every game so far, piling up six passing touchdowns and seven rushing touchdowns, even though his passing yardage has gone over 253 only once.

ESPN’s projection for this matchup calls for another busy night: one passing touchdown, one interception and one rushing touchdown, along with 236 passing yards and 30 rushing yards.

That forecast comes against a Rams defense that has given up only one rushing touchdown and just 4.84 yards per pass attempt this season. Myles Garrett will not play in Week 5, and it is unknown whether Aaron Donald will suit up.

Buffalo’s season has already taken a few turns. The Bills opened with wins over the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers before falling to the New England Patriots in Week 4.

Against New England, Allen posted 253 passing yards, one passing touchdown and one interception while completing 69.7% of his throws. He also ran for a touchdown.

On paper, that’s a strong line. For Allen, it felt more ordinary than elite.

The problem came late. With under two minutes left and Buffalo down three, Allen escaped a free rusher by spinning away from pressure, then threw into double coverage and was picked off by safety Craig Woodson. It was the kind of throw he used to make more often when he was younger.

Even with that rough finish, Allen’s season numbers remain loud: 1,039 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, three interceptions, 118 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns.

Still, the last two games have not been as clean. Against the Chargers and Patriots, Allen has thrown three interceptions, lost two fumbles and managed only one touchdown pass.

Ball security is the issue that keeps hanging over him. Allen has fumbled in every game this season, though only one of those four fumbles has been recovered by the other team.

The Bills have reached the AFC Championship Game twice with Allen at the controls, and both times their season ended against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are 4-0 this season, with Mahomes looking like his old self after suffering a major knee injury in 2025.

Allen enters Week 5 with a 91-40-0 record as Buffalo’s starting quarterback. He has 226 touchdown passes and 86 rushing touchdowns. After the loss to the Patriots at home, the question now is how he and the Bills respond against the Rams.

Bills Face A New Concern With D.J. Moore Before Rams Game

D.J. Moores first season with the Bills has already taken an uneasy turn. Acquired from the Bears in the offseason, the receiver has been dealing with a shoulder injury since Week 4 against the Patriots, and Buffalo got another reminder of his status Thursday when he was not on the practice field.

Moore left that Patriots game in the first half and did not return, and the injury has limited his production since. With the Rams coming up, Buffalo has a new concern surrounding a player it brought in to give the passing game another layer, and his availability is suddenly a storyline worth watching closely. Josh Allen Just Shut Down One Patriots-Bills Storyline

Josh Allens legs became a talking point after Buffalos win over New England, but the quarterback tried to tamp that down as the Bills turned their attention to the Rams in Week 5. Allen was efficient through the air, going 23 of 33 for 253 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and he also found the end zone once on the ground despite logging only five carries for four yards.

The speculation picked up after he took a low hit to his left knee in the Week 3 win over the Chargers, leading some to wonder whether it had changed the way he ran against the Patriots. Allen pushed back on that idea, keeping the focus on moving forward as Buffalo keeps its streak of regular-season starts intact, with the veteran quarterback not having missed one since 2018. Bills Early-Game Approach Is Putting Joe Brady Under Pressure

Joe Bradys first season running the Bills has started the way plenty of coaches would take it, with a 3-1 record and a team still trying to settle into a new rhythm. One of the clearest shifts has come at the coin toss, where Buffalo has chosen to receive first every time after winning, a departure from recent seasons and a sign of the more aggressive tone Brady wanted from the offense.

So far, though, the payoff has been limited. The Bills have managed points on only one of their four opening drives, and the early-script issue has become part of the broader evaluation of a team still finding its footing on both sides of the ball, especially with the defense adjusting under Jim Leonhard. It is the kind of small but revealing trend that can linger if the first-drive production does not start matching the intent behind it. [Read more 🡒]
