Tyler Shough didn’t need much to find his edge on Sunday. Anthony Weaver gave it to him.
Ahead of the Saints’ game against the Ravens, Baltimore’s defensive coordinator said Shough reminded him of “a poor man’s Josh Allen.” Weaver also said the “sky’s the limit” for the New Orleans quarterback, but the comment still landed the way these things often do: as fuel.
Shough made sure it stayed in the conversation all week. The Saints, too, leaned into it, calling him “poor man” throughout the buildup. By the time the fourth quarter arrived, the jab had turned into motivation.
Down 17-9 entering the final period, Shough helped push New Orleans to 15 straight points and a comeback win over Baltimore. The go-ahead touchdown came on a quarterback sneak on fourth down with 1:28 left.
The Ravens still had one last chance. Lamar Jackson tried to rally them, but his throw sailed and was intercepted to finish the game.
Shough’s final line was sharp: 27 completions on 34 attempts for 252 yards and two total touchdowns.
Afterward, he was asked about the “poor man’s Josh Allen” label.
“Yeah, I saw it,” Shough told the media. “A bunch of the coaches were telling me about it the whole time and calling me ‘poor man.’
I loved it. I knew what he meant by it.
He’s (Allen) an elite player, but it fires me up.”
Shough has already given New Orleans plenty to like. The Saints could just as easily be 2-0, considering they dropped Week 1 in overtime to the Detroit Lions even though Shough threw for more than 400 yards in that game.

Bills May Not Have To Wait Long For Two Key Returns
At 2-0 and getting strong play from Josh Allen, the Bills have managed to start fast despite a few early bumps in the lineup. Two of the biggest names on the injury report, wide receiver DJ Moore and defensive tackle Ed Oliver, are both listed day-to-day, which at least opens the door for a potential Week 3 return if things go well in practice and pregame work.
Olivers situation carries an added layer beyond football, with the team continuing to support him through a personal family tragedy. Buffalo would love to have both players back soon, not only because of their roles on each side of the ball but because a healthy roster could help the Bills build on an encouraging opening stretch. Skyler Bell Suddenly Has A Real Chance To Force Bills Decisions
The Bills have sprinted out to 77 points in their first two games, and now they head into Week 3 with another small roster wrinkle hanging over the offense. Wide receiver DJ Moore came out of Week 2 with a shoulder injury, and his availability against the Chargers is suddenly in question as Buffalo tries to keep its fast start rolling.
If Moore cannot go, rookie Skyler Bell could finally get his chance to dress and contribute after opening the season inactive. It is the kind of opening young receivers wait for in September, especially on a team already producing at a high level, and it could force Buffalo to make a real call about where Bell fits as the season starts to take shape. Bills Fast Start Hides A Bigger AFC Problem Ahead
The Bills have opened 2-0 with wins over the Texans and Lions, and on the surface that looks like the kind of start that can keep a contender comfortably ahead of the pack. The schedule ahead is manageable enough to invite optimism, with the Chargers, Patriots, Rams and Raiders all still on deck before the bye, and one projection has Buffalo riding that early momentum all the way through the break.
But the bigger picture gets complicated quickly, especially with lingering questions about the defense under coordinator Jim Leonhard. Jake Beckmans forecast has the Bills taking their first loss in Week 8 against the Ravens, a meeting that could matter far beyond the standings because of what it might mean for playoff positioning later on. If Buffalo does stumble there, the fast start will still look good, but it may also leave the AFC race tighter than the record suggests. [Read more 🡒]
