The Buffalo Bills are staring at a tough defensive test on Monday night, and the spotlight lands squarely on Deone Walker.
Buffalo has not been sharp enough on that side of the ball over its last four games, even with the strong outing against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3. The overall numbers tell the story: the Bills are giving up 372.3 yards per game, and most of that damage is coming through the air. Some of that comes down to inconsistency in the secondary, but the pass rush has also been uneven.
That matters a lot with the Los Angeles Rams coming in with the second-best offense in the league by yards per game at 417. If the Bills don’t bring a high-end effort, this could turn into a long night.
That’s where Walker comes in. ESPN’s Seth Walder singled out the Bills defensive tackle in his Week 5 picks and predicted Walker will log a sack against Matthew Stafford. Walder also pointed to a stat that jumps off the page: Walker leads all defensive tackles with 15 pressures this season.
" Bills DT Deone Walker will record a sack. Here's a number that caught me off guard: Walker leads all DTs in pressures this season, with 15.
That's the same number as Raiders' Maxx Crosby and Texans' Danielle Hunter. He might just get home against Stafford."
Walder wrote.
A sack from Walker would be notable, but Buffalo likely needs more than one splash play from him. The Bills need him to be a factor against the run and to help squeeze the middle of the pocket, too.
That interior push could be the key to how this game starts. The Rams have enough firepower to make life uncomfortable for Buffalo’s defense, but if Walker can set the tone early and keep forcing pressure from the inside, the Bills could build enough momentum to grab an early lead and put the Rams in a tougher spot.
For Buffalo, it starts with Walker. If he delivers, the Bills’ defense has a real chance to hold up well enough to leave Los Angeles with a win.

Bills Just Got A Much Tougher Monday Night Problem
Aaron Donald is set to make his return for the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football against the Bills, giving Buffalo a lot more to think about up front. Donald had been out last week with a back injury, but his presence is back on the table just in time for a matchup that already looked like a serious test for Josh Allen and the Bills offense.
Sean McVay said Donald is good to go after he took part fully in Fridays practice, which changes the feel of this one for the Rams defense. Anytime Donald is on the field, the attention he draws can reshape a game plan, and Buffalo will have to prepare for that kind of disruption on a national stage. [Read more 🡒]
Bills Enter Rams Test With More Than One Concern
The Bills enter their Week 5 Monday night matchup with the Rams carrying more than the usual amount of intrigue, because this one is about much more than just what happens on the scoreboard. Buffalo is sorting through a handful of key matchups on both sides of the ball, with particular attention on the secondary and how the offense holds up in a game that could expose where the roster is sturdy and where it still needs help. Injury updates are part of the backdrop, and so is the constant evaluation that comes with early-season football when every snap can shape how a team is viewed moving forward.
For Buffalo, the wider concern is that the Rams game arrives at a moment when the Bills are still weighing bigger-picture questions, including potential trade discussions that could affect the defense. The matchup has drawn extra attention because it sits at the intersection of short-term game planning and longer-term roster talk, with the front office and coaching staff both watching closely. By Monday night, the Bills may learn a lot not only about how they stack up against Los Angeles, but also about what they still need to solve. [Read more 🡒]
Bills Trade Buzz Centers On A Defensive Problem Fans Can See
Buffalos defensive issues have been hard to miss, and the linebacker group has been a major part of the problem as the Bills try to steady that side of the ball. With the NFL trade deadline approaching, Brad Gagnon floated a fix that fits the kind of move teams often explore when a roster flaw has become too visible to ignore: a modest addition aimed at bringing some stability to the middle of the defense.
The idea centers on Arizona linebacker Mack Wilson, a player who could be available as the Cardinals move through a rebuild and look to make practical roster decisions. Gagnons suggestion is the sort of low-cost swing that makes sense for a contender searching for help, especially if Buffalo believes it can patch a weakness without paying a premium. The question is whether the Bills think the answer is worth pursuing before the deadline passes. [Read more 🡒]
