Dalton Kincaid Knows What Buffalo Still Needs From Him

Tight end Dalton Kincaid's intensive offseason training and renewed focus could finally see him fulfill his first-round promise and elevate the Buffalo Bills' offense.

Buffalo has been waiting for Dalton Kincaid to turn promise into production, and this offseason may have brought the clearest sign yet that the tight end is ready to push into that next level.

Kincaid spent the offseason attacking his training earlier than usual, trimming down the trips he normally takes and sticking with a trainer in California he trusts. As Sal Capaccio reported, “Kincaid said he really focused on training this offseason.

Attacked it earlier than usual. Said no to some trips he’d normally take.

Works with a trainer out of California he really likes and said he’s feeling really good.”

That kind of approach matters because the Bills have been waiting for the version of Kincaid that matched his first-round billing. Through three seasons, he has flashed impact in Joe Brady’s offense without quite delivering the kind of numbers that would put him among the NFL’s elite tight ends.

His rookie year remains his most productive overall stretch. Kincaid caught 73 passes on 91 targets for 673 yards. Last season, he set a career high with five touchdowns, but a mid-season injury limited him to 12 games and kept him from building real momentum.

The usage has told part of the story too. Even with Buffalo still searching for a clear top passing threat, Kincaid posted only a 14.7% target share last season, which ranked 25th among NFL tight ends. He was still a key option near the goal line, though, with a 14.5% target share in the red zone.

The Bills also made a move this offseason to ease some of that burden by bringing in wide receiver DJ Moore. Moore should give Josh Allen another dependable option and take some pressure off Kincaid, even if he doesn’t dramatically change the tight end’s workload.

Early camp reports from Mike Maynard and Maddy Glab have been encouraging. Kincaid has put together several strong practices and has been especially effective around the end zone, catching multiple touchdown passes from Allen.

Now entering his fourth season, Kincaid has already had his fifth-year option picked up, and he is eligible for an extension. If this offseason’s work carries over, Buffalo could finally have the kind of one-two passing punch it has been looking for - and Kincaid could finally deliver the breakout season Bills fans have been waiting on.

Bills Have A Josh Allen Problem Fans Really Do Not Want

The Bills went into the 2026 offseason knowing the backup quarterback spot could matter more than usual, and Kyle Allen was brought in to provide insurance behind Josh Allen. Instead, early training camp reports have already made that job look shaky, which is the last thing Buffalo wants to hear with the season approaching. The concern is simple: if the starter misses time, the offense would be asking a quarterback with limited recent playing experience to keep everything on track.

Kyle Allens recent resume does not do much to calm those nerves, either. He spent 2025 with the Lions and barely saw the field, and his last meaningful starts came for Houston in 2022. For a Bills team built around Josh Allens ability to drive the offense, that leaves a real question lurking under camp optimism, because the gap between a dependable backup and a stopgap can change a lot very quickly. Dalton Kincaid Is Giving Josh Allen Something The Bills Need

Dalton Kincaid spent his offseason juggling training with the need to manage a knee injury, and the early signs at Bills camp suggest the tight end is arriving in a good place for his fourth season. Through the first four training camp practices, Kincaid has looked sharp enough to draw notice from Josh Allen, which matters in a Buffalo offense that always benefits when the quarterback has another dependable target working underneath and between the numbers.

The encouraging part for the Bills is not just that Kincaid is practicing, but that he is doing it well while coming off a summer built around staying healthy. Buffalo is also getting looks at other young pieces such as Tylan Grable, Jude Bowry and Landon Jackson, but Kincaids early camp form stands out because he has the kind of role that can quietly change the rhythm of the offense if it keeps building from here. Dalton Kincaid Gave Bills Fans A Scare They Could Not Ignore

Dalton Kincaid gave Bills fans a brief jolt during training camp practice when he went down after an awkward-looking hit, creating the kind of pause that instantly turns a routine rep into a worry. For a team counting on the tight end as an important offensive piece, any scare around a key player tends to hang over the rest of the day.

The concern eased quickly, though, and Kincaid was back on the field shortly after the incident. Entering his fourth season, he remains a central part of Buffalos offense, which is why even a short-lived setback drew immediate attention from everyone watching camp. [Read more 🡒]
