The 2026 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and teams are zeroing in on the talent that could shape their future rosters. While the Dallas Cowboys seem content with their current quarterback lineup-featuring Dak Prescott as the starter, Joe Milton III as the backup, and Sam Howell in the third-string spot-a recent buzz suggests they might be eyeing a new addition. The Cowboys, along with the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots, are reportedly interested in a standout quarterback known for his 65 touchdowns and title as the former ACC Player of the Year.
Haynes King, the former Georgia Tech quarterback, shared some insights on March 13, as reported by Atlanta sports journalist Miles Garrett. King mentioned, “I’ve talked to a handful, especially at the Shrine Bowl and the Combine.
Recently, meetings and stuff like that, it was the Bills, the Cowboys, and the Patriots. So far, we’ve had meetings.
That’s going to grow here. Maybe soon.
But each and every day, I’m getting new ones.”
King is a fascinating prospect, hailing from Longview, Texas, and embodying the dual-threat quarterback archetype. His pocket awareness is impressive-knowing exactly when it might collapse-and his speed is nothing short of remarkable, clocking a 4.46-second 40-yard dash at the combine. This agility allows him to extend plays with his legs, while his knack for delivering precise passes from various angles makes him a formidable passer.
However, King’s aggressive style comes with its own set of challenges. Known for taking some heavy hits and occasionally indulging in hero ball, his play style is as thrilling as it is risky. Over his collegiate career, King amassed 9,486 passing yards, 2,427 rushing yards, 92 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions while playing for Georgia Tech and Texas A&M.
If the Cowboys decide to bring King into the fold, he’ll certainly face a steep learning curve. Yet, with his versatile skill set and the accolade of 2025 ACC Player of the Year under his belt, King has the potential to make a splash in the NFL.
