Buffalo Bills Stay Quiet as Key Wide Receiver Signs Elsewhere

Despite a flurry of activity in free agency, the Buffalo Bills missed a chance to bolster their wide receiver depth and versatility with the loss of Greg Dortch to the Lions.

The Buffalo Bills have been relatively quiet in the free agency scene since signing safety Geno Stone. Alongside Stone, they've brought in talents like C.J.

Gardner-Johnson, Bradley Chubb, and Dee Alford. They've also made key moves by acquiring D.J.

Moore and extending contracts for Connor McGovern and Dawson Knox. These moves have certainly made an impact, but the Bills have yet to make a splash during the second wave of free agency.

There's a noticeable gap in their roster that needs addressing, particularly at the wide receiver position. The Bills missed out on a versatile option in Greg Dortch, who just inked a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions. Dortch reunites with Lions' offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, who coached him during his tenure with the Arizona Cardinals.

Dortch, known for his speed and agility, spent his last few seasons in Arizona, contributing both as a receiver and a special teams returner. He managed over 200 yards in punt returns in two of his five seasons and is coming off an impressive 811-yard kickoff return season. Despite the Cardinals' quarterback challenges and a crowded receiving corps featuring Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, and Trey McBride, Dortch's versatility stood out.

The Bills, with new wide receivers coach Drew Terrell and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers-both formerly with Arizona-seemed like a fitting destination for Dortch. However, he opted for the Lions, leaving Buffalo still in need of bolstering their receiving depth.

With D.J. Moore as a top target and Khalil Shakir holding down the slot, the Bills have a solid foundation.

Yet, adding another veteran receiver before the draft remains crucial. Dortch's one-year deal would have been an ideal, low-risk addition, emphasizing the need for the Bills to act swiftly in securing more talent to round out their offense.
