Buffalo Bills Reunite with Familiar QB, Shake Up Roster with Punter Move

Bills solidify their roster by securing seasoned quarterback Kyle Allen and reliable punter Mitch Wishnowsky, while leaving room for strategic additions.

The Buffalo Bills are keeping their quarterback carousel spinning, bringing back Kyle Allen for the 2026 season. After a stint backing up Jared Goff in Detroit, Allen is rejoining the Bills on a two-year deal worth up to $6.1 million. This move gives Buffalo a familiar face behind their star quarterback, Josh Allen, adding stability to the backup role.

Kyle Allen, entering his ninth NFL season, has been around the league with stops in Carolina, Washington, Houston, Pittsburgh, and Detroit. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 210 pounds, the Scottsdale native has seen action in 34 games, starting 19 of them.

Over his career, he's completed 442 of 707 passes for 4,753 yards, with 26 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. Not just a passer, Allen has also contributed 159 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

While the Bills might still explore options in the draft for additional quarterback depth, Allen’s signing ensures they have a reliable option ready to step in if needed.

In other roster moves, the Bills are also bringing back punter Mitch Wishnowsky for another year. Originally signed late last season to replace the injured Cameron Johnston, Wishnowsky proved his worth with some impressive stats. A former Ray Guy Award winner from his college days at Utah, Wishnowsky was a fourth-round pick by the 49ers in 2019 and spent six seasons with them before joining Buffalo.

Despite a back injury that limited him in 2024, Wishnowsky bounced back last season. His punts were returned only 28.9% of the time, ranking third in the league, and his hang time averaged 4.44 seconds, placing him ninth. The Bills’ punt coverage also shone, allowing just 6.3 yards per return, the fourth-best in the NFL.

The return of Wishnowsky solidifies the special teams unit, though Buffalo might still look to add competition at the position through the draft or free agency. With these strategic moves, the Bills are building a roster that balances experience with potential, setting the stage for another competitive season.
