The Buffalo Bills are staring down a pivotal offseason, and the wide receiver room is front and center in the conversation-for all the wrong reasons. With no clear No. 1 target and limited cap flexibility, Buffalo is in a bind. And now, it looks like Keon Coleman, once viewed as a potential cornerstone, may be on his way out.
Coleman, a second-round pick out of Florida State, has had a rocky start to his NFL career. After a promising rookie season, things unraveled in 2025.
He found himself in the doghouse more than once, facing multiple team-issued disciplinary actions. The situation took a public turn when Bills owner Terry Pegula appeared to shift blame onto former head coach Sean McDermott for drafting him in the first place-an eyebrow-raising move that signaled just how fractured the relationship had become.
Now, with two years still left on his rookie deal, Coleman is reportedly on the trade block. And while his raw numbers-38 catches for 404 yards and four touchdowns this past season-don’t jump off the page, the talent is clearly there.
Just a year prior, he averaged a whopping 19.2 yards per reception, hauling in 29 passes for 556 yards and four scores. That kind of vertical threat doesn’t grow on trees.
One team that could be kicking the tires? The New Orleans Saints.
According to Saints insider Nick Underhill, there’s at least some internal chatter about making a move for Coleman. The thinking is simple: he wouldn’t cost much, and the upside is real.
“I don't think his trade value is very high,” Underhill said. “I think they've destroyed it.
I think they've wrecked his trade value. So, what would I trade to get him?
Like a sixth or a seventh, I think. ... If they're getting rid of him and he needs a place to go and you want to add him to Ja'Lynn Polk and Trey Palmer ...
There's high upside there.”
It’s a classic low-risk, high-reward scenario for a team like New Orleans, which is still piecing together its offensive identity. Adding Coleman to a young receiver room could be a worthwhile gamble. At just 22 years old, there’s time for him to grow-especially in a system that doesn’t demand he be the focal point right away.
As for the Bills, the big question is: what now? Outside of Khalil Shakir, there’s not much in the way of proven production among their pass-catchers.
Coleman, despite the issues, was still second among Buffalo wideouts in receptions this season. That’s not just a red flag-it’s a siren.
The Bills have reportedly explored bigger-name options like A.J. Brown and Brandon Aiyuk, but with their current cap situation, pulling off a blockbuster trade or signing won’t be easy.
That means Buffalo’s front office has some tough decisions ahead. Do they go bargain hunting?
Rely on the draft? Or try to develop in-house talent that hasn’t quite broken through?
Whatever the path, it’s clear the Bills need to reshape their receiving corps-and fast. Josh Allen can only do so much without reliable weapons. And if Coleman is indeed on his way out, the urgency just got dialed up another notch.
