Bradley Chubb didn’t just land in Buffalo and start talking like a Bill. He had been sizing up the place long before free agency ever brought him there.
While still with the Miami Dolphins in 2023, Chubb was already asking questions about the Bills’ environment, looking for a team with real championship intent after seeing Miami’s postseason trips end quickly. The Dolphins had fallen to Buffalo in the Wild-Card Round in 2022, and after going 11-6 in 2023, they were bounced by the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild-Card Round.
That backdrop mattered to Chubb, who was in his second season with Miami at the time and clearly wondering whether there was a better football home out there. During a regular-season game in 2023, tight end Dalton Kincaid said Chubb hit him with a question that stuck.
"I remember my rookie year Bradley Chubb lining up opposing me, and he was like, 'Do you like it here in Buffalo?,'" Kincaid said, via the Bills. "And it was like the oddest question to be asked as a rookie.
"Then you flash forward, three or four years later, and he's on our team. So, I think it's pretty cool, just him to come in and just seamlessly become a leader."
Now Chubb is part of that locker room after signing a three-year deal with Buffalo in free agency. The two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher said the move feels like a reset, and not just because he’s changing uniforms.
"I had probably one 11-win season, one playoff appearance for myself," Chubb said. "Two technically, but I didn't play in one.
"It is re-energizing to get to a city, a team and an organization who has expectations of not just the first round (of playoffs), not just the second round but being in the long haul in the playoff run."
Chubb’s path to this point included missing the 2023 postseason after suffering a torn ACL in Week 17. Even so, he’s expected to be a major part of new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard’s scheme, and he’s coming off an 8.5-sack season in 2025. That total could climb again in Buffalo.
