With the NFL trade deadline closing in, Buffalo has a chance to patch one of the spots that has looked shaky at times this season: cornerback. The Bills are sitting on top of the AFC East at 5-1, but their pass defense has not always looked steady, and adding help on the back end would give Brandon Beane another lever to pull.
Christian Benford remains Buffalo’s top corner. Davison Igbinosun has continued to develop.
Beyond that, the picture gets murkier, especially with 2025 first-round pick Maxwell Hairston, who has apparently lost his starting job to Igbinosun. That leaves the Bills with a clear reason to shop for outside help before the November 10 deadline.
One name that fits the bill is Mike Sainristil of the Washington Commanders. The 2024 second-round pick out of Michigan has already shown plenty of ball production, with two interceptions and 14 pass breakups as a rookie, then four more interceptions in 2025.
His snap count has bounced around this season, which makes him a player worth watching. He also brings something Buffalo could use right away: better tackling.
Sainristil is one of the better young tackling corners in the league, and he’s still on his rookie deal with one more season left, carrying a $2.45 million cap hit in 2027.
Riq Woolen is another interesting fit, this time for what he brings physically. At 6-foot-4, he has the size, speed and starting experience to give Buffalo a different look on the outside.
Woolen signed a one-year, $12 million deal with Philadelphia after spending his first four NFL seasons in Seattle, where he piled up 12 interceptions, including six as a rookie in 2022. Things haven’t gone well with the Eagles, and a 3rd- or 4th-round pick could be enough to get him.
If the Bills made that move, Woolen could line up opposite Benford and let Igbinosun slide back into a more situational role before taking over the full job next season. His length and athleticism make him a natural candidate for a defense trying to tighten its coverage, and because his contract expires after the season, Philadelphia may be willing to deal him for future assets.
Donte Jackson rounds out the list as the most straightforward veteran option. Now with the Los Angeles Chargers, Jackson has spent most of his career with Carolina, then moved on to Pittsburgh and Los Angeles.
He has played only four games this season, but his 2025 numbers still stand out: four interceptions and 12 passes defended in 17 games. The contract adds to the appeal.
Jackson is on an expiring deal worth just $4 million, which makes him a manageable addition for Buffalo if the team wants immediate help without a heavy financial commitment.

Budda Baker Trade Buzz Puts Cardinals Fans On Edge
The safety market can get lively fast once the trade deadline starts to draw near, and Budda Baker is already at the center of it. Buffalo has reportedly shown interest in the Arizona Cardinals standout, a player whose rsum includes eight Pro Bowl selections and a reputation as one of the leagues most reliable defensive playmakers. For a Bills defense that has spent the season trying to stay sturdy and versatile, Baker would be the kind of addition that immediately changes the conversation.
What makes this situation worth watching is that Buffalo may not be alone for long if the pursuit gets serious. Bakers production this season has only sharpened the appeal, and the deadline always has a way of drawing out rival bidders when a proven veteran becomes available. The Bills have the need, the motivation and the timing to make a run, but whether they can turn interest into a deal is where this one starts to get interesting. [Read more 🡒]
Buccaneers Suddenly Have A Week 9 Spotlight Question Hanging Over Them
The NFLs latest round of schedule shuffling had a ripple effect that touches the Bills later in the fall, with one Week 11 matchup moving from Fox to CBS as part of a broader set of changes across Weeks 9 and 11. The league also adjusted kickoff times for Raiders-49ers and Lions-Dolphins in Week 9, while Buccaneers-Lions was shifted to Fox in Week 11, all part of the usual television and window choreography that comes with the season settling into its stretch run.
For Buffalo, the more immediate note is the one hanging over Week 9, where the Buccaneers-Bears Sunday night game is under consideration for a possible flex. The league is expected to make that call by Oct. 27, leaving a little extra uncertainty around a primetime window that could still be in play when the calendar turns to November. [Read more 🡒]
Bills' Brutal Second Half Could Decide Everything In The AFC East
Buffalos 5-1 start has put the Bills in control of the AFC East heading into Week 8, but the margin for error is about to shrink. The path ahead looks a lot less forgiving than the one they just navigated, with a second-half slate that will force the Bills to keep stacking wins while trying to protect their spot at the top of the division.
What makes the next few weeks so important is the caliber of the opponents waiting on the schedule and the way those games can reshape the race in a hurry. The Bills will have to handle one major test after another, and how they manage that stretch could go a long way toward deciding whether this fast start turns into a division title or a late-season scramble.
