The Buffalo Bills are deep into their head coaching search, and this week they’re set to meet with a familiar face: Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. According to reports, Weaver will interview for the top job in Buffalo, adding another chapter to what’s been a busy hiring cycle across the league.
Weaver’s name has been buzzing in coaching circles this offseason. He’s already completed second interviews with both the Steelers and Ravens-though Baltimore has since hired Jesse Minter as their new head coach. That leaves Pittsburgh and now Buffalo as potential landing spots for the highly regarded defensive mind.
Weaver has spent the past two seasons leading Miami’s defense, helping shape a unit that’s shown flashes of physicality and versatility. Before that, he was part of the Ravens’ staff from 2021 to 2023, and he’s no stranger to Buffalo either-he coached the Bills’ defensive line back in 2013. That past connection could carry weight in a franchise that values continuity and culture.
His coaching résumé is extensive. Weaver has worked with the Jets (2012), Browns (2014-15), Texans (2016-20), and Ravens, bringing over a decade of NFL experience on the defensive side of the ball. Notably, he served as the Texans’ defensive coordinator in 2020, a year that tested his ability to adapt and lead through adversity.
Buffalo’s list of candidates is a mix of offensive and defensive minds, with a few familiar names in the mix. That includes Commanders running backs coach and run game coordinator Anthony Lynn, who brings head coaching experience and a strong reputation for player development.
Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady is also under consideration, as is former Giants head coach Brian Daboll-another name with deep ties to Buffalo’s recent success. Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski round out a group that reflects the Bills’ intent to explore all angles as they look to replace Sean McDermott.
The Bills are clearly casting a wide net, but Weaver’s track record-and his previous stint in Buffalo-makes him a compelling candidate. As the coaching carousel continues to spin, this is one name to keep an eye on.
