The Buffalo Bills are making a late-season move that could add some veteran firepower to their defensive front. On Friday, the team officially signed edge rusher Matt Judon to their practice squad, bringing in a seasoned pass rusher with a deep résumé. To make room, the Bills released veteran defensive end Morgan Fox.
Judon, 33, has been around the NFL block. Originally a fifth-round pick by the Ravens in 2016, he carved out a reputation as a physical, high-motor edge presence in Baltimore.
He played out his rookie deal before being tagged by the Ravens, then cashed in with a four-year, $56 million contract with the Patriots. That deal paid off early - Judon became a key piece in New England’s front seven - but he found himself on the move again before the 2024 season, when the Patriots dealt him to Atlanta for a third-round pick.
Fast forward to this past August, and Judon was signing a one-year deal with the Dolphins, looking to prove he still had something left in the tank. He appeared in 13 games for Miami in 2025, registering 19 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and a pass deflection. Notably, he didn’t record a sack - a stat that jumps out for a player whose calling card has long been getting after the quarterback.
Still, there’s value in experience, especially this time of year. The Bills are eyeing the postseason, and bringing in a veteran like Judon - even to the practice squad - gives them a chance to bolster their depth with someone who’s been through playoff battles before. He may not be the same disruptive force he was in his prime, but his knowledge, leadership, and ability to step in if needed could prove valuable down the stretch.
As for Morgan Fox, his release clears the way for this move. Fox has been a steady rotational piece throughout his career, but the Bills are clearly looking to shake things up as they fine-tune their defensive line heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
Whether Judon sees game-day action remains to be seen, but this is the kind of low-risk, high-upside move that contenders often make in December. And if he’s got anything left in the tank, the Bills might just have added a savvy veteran who knows how to make plays when it matters most.
