Skyler Bell has spent his first Bills training camp getting tested from every angle, and so far the rookie receiver has handled it like a player who belongs.
Buffalo has not eased him in. The team has moved Bell around the offense, handed him multiple positions and asked him to learn a wide range of routes. That kind of workload can bury a young receiver, but Bell has drawn praise for taking it all in stride.
“We have thrown a ton at him,” Pete Carmichael said on Monday. “We've put him at a ton of different positions, ton of different routes. I mean, we have asked him to do a lot, and he has gone out there and he's done everything we've asked.”
For a rookie trying to break through in an offense that already includes DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, Joshua Palmer, and Dalton Kincaid, that response matters. Carmichael said Bell’s ability to handle different spots and different route responsibilities has been a clear strength, and that the rookie has shown he can keep up mentally as well as physically.
“He's smart. He can play those multiple positions. He can run a lot of routes,” Carmichael said.
Josh Allen has seen the same thing from the quarterback side. Allen said the Bills have been “putting a lot on his plate intentionally” and that Bell has been “excelling really in any spot that we've put him in so far.”
Allen also pointed to what makes Bell so intriguing in Buffalo’s offense. He said Bell has enough speed to work outside and enough quickness and route-running ability to operate from the slot. Allen singled out Bell’s crisp routes and his ability to make plays downfield.
That kind of flexibility gives the Bills another weapon in how they deploy personnel. With Moore, Shakir, and Bell all able to move between the slot and outside, Buffalo can shift formations without changing what it wants to run. Kincaid and Dawson Knox can also be moved around, adding another layer of uncertainty for defenses trying to sort it all out.
Bell’s job now is simple: keep showing he can handle whatever comes next. Carmichael noted that there have been times when Bell has gotten open but the coverage forced the quarterback to go elsewhere, a sign that his separation has stood out even when practice stats don’t tell the full story.
With the preseason approaching, Bell will soon get his first chance to turn those training camp flashes into game production. On the depth chart, he currently sits as the fifth receiver, but a strong showing could open the door to more opportunities as the season goes on.

Bills Try To Calm Growing Backlash Over New Highmark Stadium
The Bills spent part of the post-practice spotlight trying to steady the reaction around their new Highmark Stadium, where fans have raised concerns about obstructed views, undersized scoreboards, sluggish foot traffic and the look of the canopy. During a conference call after the Blue & Red practice, team executives said the virtual venue clearly showed any seats with a limited view and stressed that truly obstructed seats have not been sold for football games.
The response was aimed at reminding supporters that Saturdays event was only a soft opening, not a full dress rehearsal for an actual game day crowd. The team also said the flow of people through the building should look different once the stadium is operating in a true football setting, even as the early criticism continues to linger around the project. Terrel Bernard Enters A Crucial Bills Season With One Big Question
Terrel Bernard spent much of the 2025 season trying to hold together the middle of the Bills defense while battling through a stretch of injuries that cost him time and limited his availability. Even so, the inside linebacker and defensive captain still managed to stay productive in the games he played, finishing with 65 tackles and filling the kind of leadership role Buffalo has come to depend on.
The bigger question now is how Bernard comes out on the other side of an offseason that changed more than just his health. A new defensive coordinator has already begun reshaping some responsibilities on that side of the ball, and Bernard enters camp in a very different spot than he left last year, with the challenge of proving he can handle both the physical demands and the new expectations at the heart of Buffalos defense. Bills Backup QB Question Just Sparked A New Trade Idea
Buffalos backup quarterback spot has been one of the quieter but more persistent storylines around Josh Allen for years, with the Bills cycling through names such as Matt Barkley, Mitch Trubisky, Kyle Allen and Case Keenum since 2018. It is a reminder that even in a stable contender, the No. 2 quarterback job can become a moving target, and the Bills have never fully locked it down for long.
Now a speculative trade idea has floated a possible fix, centered on adding a quarterback with NFL starting experience and a Super Bowl ring to his name. The pitch is not framed as a clear upgrade over Kyle Allen, but it does suggest Buffalo could look outside the building if it wants a more proven insurance policy behind Josh Allen, even if the cost and the fit remain part of the debate.
