Bills Receiver Move Suddenly Matters More Than Fans Realized

In response to a defensive setback, the Buffalo Bills turn to speedy wideout Greg Dortch to bolster their roster and special teams for the upcoming challenges.

The Buffalo Bills have made the move that had been building for a few weeks: Greg Dortch is on the 53-man roster.

Dortch, a veteran wide receiver, first landed on Buffalo’s practice squad after the Detroit Lions let him go at the end of August. Since then, the Bills have already tapped him for work in their first two games, using him on kick and punt returns. The promotion to the main roster now gives him the spot that always looked like the eventual destination.

The opening for that move came because of Jordan Hancock. The 23-year-old defensive back was placed on injured reserve Friday after suffering a hamstring injury this week, and he’ll be out for at least the next four games. Hancock’s week went from limited participation on Wednesday to no practice at all on Thursday or Friday, and his absence hits Buffalo in two places: special teams and secondary depth.

That loss matters because Hancock had carved out a strong summer for himself. The second-year Swiss Army knife was making plays at nickel cornerback and safety, giving Buffalo real versatility before the injury shut him down. With him sidelined, the Bills could turn to Geno Stone and elevate him from the practice squad.

For Dortch, the roster spot doesn’t just lock in his return duties. He may also get a chance to help the offense if Buffalo needs it.

Wide receivers Keon Coleman and DJ Moore are both questionable for Sunday’s game against the Chargers after getting hurt against the Detroit Lions in Week 2. Bills head coach Joe Brady said Friday that Buffalo will wait until game time on Coleman and Moore.

Even if either one suits up, the Bills know they won’t be at full strength.

Bills Rookie Skyler Bell Suddenly Has A Real Chance To Matter

With D.J. Moore and Keon Coleman both dealing with injuries heading into Week 3 against the Chargers, a door has opened for Skyler Bell that did not exist when the season began. The fourth-round pick was a healthy scratch for Buffalos first two games, but the Bills now appear likely to have him active, giving the rookie his first real chance to get onto the field and show why the team spent a draft pick on him.

Bells opportunity comes at a time when Buffalo needs answers at receiver, and it puts a spotlight on what he can offer beyond just filling a uniform spot. The Bills have spent two weeks without seeing him in game action, so this could become more than a routine activation if he can carve out a role while the receiver group is thin. [Read more 🡒]

Bills May Be Watching A Year Two Breakout Up Front

Deone Walker has wasted little time making his presence felt through the first two weeks of the 2026 season, giving Buffalo another interior defender who can change a game in a hurry. The second-year defensive tackle has already logged a sack, nine quarterback pressures, four tackles and three batted passes, a disruptive start that stands out even for a Bills front trying to build consistency up front.

Joe Brady has noticed the jump, praising Walkers progress and the way he fits into the defensive scheme after what was already an encouraging rookie year. A fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Walker earned All-Rookie honors last season, and now he looks like a player the Bills may be counting on for more than just depth as the year unfolds. Bills Face Real Lineup Questions Before Chargers Showdown

The Bills are heading into their Week 3 matchup with the Chargers carrying more uncertainty than they would like at this stage of the season. Buffalos injury report includes six regular starters, and the status of wide receivers Keon Coleman and DJ Moore remains especially important as the offense gets ready for a road test against a Chargers team dealing with its own health issues.

Los Angeles listed 14 players on its injury report, creating a similar sense of waiting on availability as the game approaches. Even with some key absences already looming, including Charlie Kolar expected to miss the game because of injury, both teams are still sorting through who can go and who cannot, which could shape how this matchup is played from the opening snap.
