The Bills got hit with another health scare Monday night when starting right tackle Spencer Brown left their Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams with an injury.
Brown was spotted heading off the field with team athletic trainers before going into the blue medical evaluation tent on Buffalo’s sideline, according to The Buffalo News reporter Lance Lysowski. Buffalo did not have a definitive update on him, leaving his availability uncertain.
That put reserve tackle Tylan Grable into the game on the right side, and suddenly the Bills had to reshuffle on the fly against a Rams pass rush that was already going to demand full attention from Josh Allen’s protection unit.
If Brown is forced to miss time, it would be a major setback for Buffalo. At 6-foot-8 and more than 310 pounds, he has grown into a real force up front, helping open lanes for James Cook and giving Allen needed support in pass protection. With injuries already stacking up elsewhere on the roster, another absence on the offensive line would put even more pressure on the team’s depth.
For Grable, this was a chance to step in and try to settle the right tackle spot. But Brown’s size, experience and physicality are not easy to replace.
A third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Northern Iowa, Brown won the starting job early and worked his way into a key role on the Bills’ front five. He started every game in 2023, showing the kind of durability and consistency that made him such a dependable run-blocker. Buffalo then backed that growth with a four-year contract extension before the 2024 season.
Now, with the Bills in the middle of a demanding 2026 campaign, Brown’s status is one to watch.

Bills Bring A Crucial Week 5 Edge Into Rams Matchup
The Bills head into Monday Night Football with a cleaner injury picture than the Rams, which matters as they prepare to host a Los Angeles team already dealing with key absences on both sides of the ball. Buffalos matchup with the Rams comes with the usual prime-time attention, but the early edge on the availability report is part of the story here, especially as the teams work through their final injury designations before kickoff.
Buffalo has only one player listed as questionable, safety Quentin Lake, while the Rams are carrying a longer and more complicated list. Joshua Palmer and Ed Oliver are among the players ruled out, and Dee Alford, Landon Jackson and DJ Moore remain questionable, leaving Los Angeles with more uncertainty than the Bills as the game approaches. For Buffalo, that kind of Week 5 advantage could loom large in a matchup where every lineup decision matters. [Read more 🡒]
Hailee Steinfeld Gave Bills Fans A Rare Josh Allen Moment
The late stages of Monday nights Bills-Rams game offered a familiar Josh Allen moment, but with an unusual twist for Buffalo viewers. ESPN caught Hailee Steinfeld in the suite reacting to Allens run, a rare glimpse of the quarterbacks wife during a Bills broadcast and a reminder of how much attention follows Allen even when the spotlight shifts off the field.
Steinfeld and Allen welcomed their first child earlier this year, which only adds to the intrigue whenever she appears around the team. Her reaction to Allens late-game scramble fit the moment in a stadium already keyed up by a tense finish, and it was the kind of quick broadcast cutaway that Bills fans do not see often, especially when it involves one of the most recognizable names connected to the franchise. Bills Fans Have A Growing C.J. Gardner-Johnson Problem
C.J. Gardner-Johnson arrived in Buffalo with a reputation that came with him, and the first few weeks have only kept his name in the conversation. After making a controversial comment about Patriots receiver Efton Chism III following a game-winning touchdown catch, he was back in the spotlight in the next game against the Rams, where the Bills were reminded that his game can swing from flashy to costly in a hurry.
The play on the field has become part of the larger concern around him, because Buffalo has seen both the value and the volatility in real time. Gardner-Johnsons past shows he can help a defense, but if the execution and the discipline do not settle down, the Bills may find themselves facing the same uncomfortable question other teams have before: whether he is a fit for the long haul or someone who could be on the move again.
