Through two weeks, Deone Walker has looked like a player who is already changing the shape of Buffalo’s front.
The Bills are 2-0, and Walker has been right in the middle of the action. The defensive tackle has logged one sack, nine quarterback pressures, four tackles and three batted down passes, and his impact has gone well beyond the stat sheet. In wins over the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions, he’s repeatedly forced problems for opposing offenses, often blowing up plays even when someone else gets credit for the finish.
That kind of start stands out even more when you stack it against what he did as a rookie. Walker, a fourth-round pick by the Bills in the 2025 NFL Draft, showed flashes last season and finished with 13 pressures on 214 pass rush snaps, an 8% pressure rate. This year, he’s already up to seven pressures in just 53 pass rush snaps, which works out to 17.9%.
The early returns have him looking like a disruptive presence in the middle of Jim Leonhard’s defense, and head coach Joe Brady likes what he’s seen so far.
“I think the scheme fits him,” head coach Joe Brady said Walker. “He made a jump from year one to year two, but we’ve only played two games right now.
The consistency, I want to be able to see that game in and game out, and him being able to keep that competitive stamina. He has a style of play that fits exactly what we’re looking for, so it’s important for him to just continue finding ways to get better.
We’re putting stuff on tape now and teams are obviously going to have to prepare for him and him being able to adjust and kind of handle that, but I’ve been pleased with his progress thus far.”
Walker’s rookie year already hinted at what he could become. He made the NFL’s All-Rookie Team after putting up 39 tackles, 16 pressures, one sack, four batted down passes and a fumble recovery.
Now, after two strong outings to open 2026, he’s giving Buffalo plenty to build on.

Bills Rookie Skyler Bell Suddenly Has A Real Chance To Matter
With D.J. Moore and Keon Coleman both dealing with injuries heading into Week 3 against the Chargers, a door has opened for Skyler Bell that did not exist when the season began. The fourth-round pick was a healthy scratch for Buffalos first two games, but the Bills now appear likely to have him active, giving the rookie his first real chance to get onto the field and show why the team spent a draft pick on him.
Bells opportunity comes at a time when Buffalo needs answers at receiver, and it puts a spotlight on what he can offer beyond just filling a uniform spot. The Bills have spent two weeks without seeing him in game action, so this could become more than a routine activation if he can carve out a role while the receiver group is thin. [Read more 🡒]
Bills Receiver Move Suddenly Matters More Than Fans Realized
The Bills made a quiet but meaningful roster tweak by signing Greg Dortch to the 53-man roster after elevating him from the practice squad. On the surface, it is the kind of move that can get buried in the shuffle of a long season, but it comes at a time when Buffalo is dealing with uncertainty at receiver and trying to keep its passing game stocked for the next stretch.
Keon Coleman and DJ Moore are both questionable for the upcoming game because of injuries, which gives Dortch a chance to matter sooner rather than later. The Bills also placed defensive back Jordan Hancock on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, so this is a week where the roster has already been forced to absorb some hits and adjust on the fly. Bills Face Real Lineup Questions Before Chargers Showdown
The Bills are heading into their Week 3 matchup with the Chargers carrying more uncertainty than they would like at this stage of the season. Buffalos injury report includes six regular starters, and the status of wide receivers Keon Coleman and DJ Moore remains especially important as the offense gets ready for a road test against a Chargers team dealing with its own health issues.
Los Angeles listed 14 players on its injury report, creating a similar sense of waiting on availability as the game approaches. Even with some key absences already looming, including Charlie Kolar expected to miss the game because of injury, both teams are still sorting through who can go and who cannot, which could shape how this matchup is played from the opening snap.
