The Texans’ next test arrives fast, and oddsmakers are treating Houston like the team to beat at home.
After opening Week 1 with a 36-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Texans are set to host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, at 12 p.m. CT at Relaint Stadium in Houston. CBS will carry the game, with streaming available on FuboTV.
Houston enters the matchup as the home favorite, even though Week 1 exposed some clear issues. The Texans’ defense gave up more than 400 yards and allowed 36 points, which was the second-most in the DeMeco Ryans era.
On the offensive side, turnovers haunted them from the start and the finish. C.J.
Stroud was stripped and sacked on Houston’s opening drive, leading to a turnover deep in Texans territory, and the same thing happened again with 30 seconds left on the final drive.
“You have to make plays. It's simple as that," Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said postgame. "We had opportunities to make plays and we didn't make plays."
The Bengals come in after a 33-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and their offense still looks capable of putting pressure on any defense. Joe Burrow leads a group that includes All-Pro wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase and Pro Bowler Tee Higgins, and Cincinnati has shown it can strike early and often.
That Week 1 win, though, wasn’t clean. Cincinnati forced four turnovers, including three fumbles by quarterback Baker Mayfield, before Burrow threw a pick-six to rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter in the third quarter, swinging momentum back toward Tampa entering the fourth.
Mayfield later kept the ball on a trip to the end zone, finishing with a 9-yard touchdown run and trimming the gap to six. The Bengals then converted on third-and-short to close it out.
For both teams, this is an early in-conference matchup with real weight attached. Each side is trying to climb the standings and improve its playoff seeding position, with Houston aiming to get to 1-1 and Cincinnati looking to move to 2-0.
