Josh Allen and the Bills stole the show in one of Week 5’s wildest finishes, holding off Matthew Stafford and the Rams for a 37-34 overtime win after a last-second Los Angeles rally, a James Cook fumble, and a game that kept finding new ways to turn. Allen and Stafford both delivered at a high level, but Buffalo had the final answer in a thriller that capped the weekend in dramatic fashion.
The ending wasn’t the only jolt. Sean McVay’s team took a hit in the special teams department in the game grades, and the chaos spilled over after the whistle when the Rams’ Alaric Jackson punched Bradley Chubb. John Breech gave the Bills an “A+” after the comeback win.
Out in Milwaukee, the Brewers kept the Dodgers on the ropes with a 7-4 victory in Game 2 of the NLCS. William Contreras came through for the home side as Los Angeles dropped to 0-2 in the series before the set shifts to Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers, chasing a three-peat, suddenly have plenty to sort out.
The Guardians also cashed in on momentum, opening the ALCS with a comeback win over the Rays despite the quick turnaround. Cleveland and Tampa Bay are back at it tonight after Game 1 tilted in the Guardians’ favor.
College football is dealing with quarterback uncertainty at two ranked programs. No.
12 UCLA is expected to be without Nico Iamaleava for the rest of the season after the knee injury he suffered against Oregon, leaving the Bruins with major questions before their game against Wisconsin. No.
16 Mississippi State at least has a less severe situation with Kamario Taylor, who is not out for the season but could miss Saturday’s meeting with No. 22 LSU.
The NFL also handed down discipline to San Francisco linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who was suspended one game for head-butting Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones, who was not wearing a helmet when it happened. Greenlaw had already been ejected, and now the 49ers will be without him for their Week 6 matchup with the Commanders.
Jim Harbaugh’s situation with the Chargers has also become part of the bigger conversation after the team opened 0-5. Questions are starting to pile up around Justin Herbert, Mike McDaniel, and Harbaugh, and while a return to college football would normally look like an easy out, the NCAA penalties from the Michigan sign-stealing scandal complicate that path.
Notre Dame, meanwhile, keeps rolling. The Fighting Irish moved up to No. 3 in the latest CFB Power Rankings after crushing Stanford 58-7 for their 16th straight double-digit win.
Brandon Marcello noted that the last two teams to do that won national titles: Miami in 2001 and Texas in 1969. Notre Dame heads next to BYU, the same team the Irish skipped playing in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
At the other end of the rankings, Texas A&M took a tumble after a rough run in conference play. The Aggies dropped 23 spots in the CBS Sports 138 and now sit 62nd, tucked between Georgia State and UNLV. Mike Elko also had to apologize after calling a section of the fan base a “cesspool,” and Pat Fitzgerald apologized as well after flipping a bird toward the Illinois sideline.
There’s pressure building around the NBA, too. In John Gonzalez’s look at the 10 teams and players facing the most heat in 2026-27, the Celtics sit in the spotlight after trading Jaylen Brown to the 76ers.
Brad Stevens explained his thinking, but that didn’t calm the reaction from a Boston fan base that now has to watch Brown suit up for a division rival and one of its most hated opponents. The Warriors also have some urgency, and Kristaps Porziņģis is still away from the team because of a mystery illness.
Elsewhere, Bill Belichick was absent from the Patriots’ 2001 Super Bowl reunion, Nick Sirianni and Dan Quinn did not do much to cool their hot seats, the Cowboys turned to a former NFL head coach to help fix their defense, Alabama was labeled the most overrated team in the SEC MBB preseason media poll, Penny Hardaway is putting his own money into Memphis’ roster, and the SEC moved another step toward self-governance with standardized NIL contracts. Cheryl Reeve earned WNBA Executive of the Year honors for her work with the Lynx, the USWNT gets Spain next, and Carmelo Hayes joined 946 and attacked Solo Sikoa on WWE Raw.

Bills O-Line Suddenly Has A Josh Allen Problem Fans Will Watch
The Bills spent part of Monday night shuffling up front after starting right tackle Spencer Brown left the Week 5 game against the Rams and was checked on the sideline. Browns exit sent reserve tackle Tylan Grable into the game, a move that immediately put a spotlight on Buffalos protection issues and how quickly the offense can feel the impact when one edge spot gets unsettled.
For a team built around Josh Allens ability to extend plays and attack downfield, the right tackle situation is one to monitor closely. Buffalo had not yet provided a firm update on Browns condition, leaving his availability uncertain and creating one more thing for the Bills to sort out coming out of a physical night. [Read more 🡒]
Bills Bring A Crucial Week 5 Edge Into Rams Matchup
The Bills head into Monday Night Football with a cleaner injury picture than the Rams, which matters as they prepare to host a Los Angeles team already dealing with key absences on both sides of the ball. Buffalos matchup with the Rams comes with the usual prime-time attention, but the early edge on the availability report is part of the story here, especially as the teams work through their final injury designations before kickoff.
Buffalo has only one player listed as questionable, safety Quentin Lake, while the Rams are carrying a longer and more complicated list. Joshua Palmer and Ed Oliver are among the players ruled out, and Dee Alford, Landon Jackson and DJ Moore remain questionable, leaving Los Angeles with more uncertainty than the Bills as the game approaches. For Buffalo, that kind of Week 5 advantage could loom large in a matchup where every lineup decision matters. [Read more 🡒]
Hailee Steinfeld Gave Bills Fans A Rare Josh Allen Moment
The late stages of Monday nights Bills-Rams game offered a familiar Josh Allen moment, but with an unusual twist for Buffalo viewers. ESPN caught Hailee Steinfeld in the suite reacting to Allens run, a rare glimpse of the quarterbacks wife during a Bills broadcast and a reminder of how much attention follows Allen even when the spotlight shifts off the field.
Steinfeld and Allen welcomed their first child earlier this year, which only adds to the intrigue whenever she appears around the team. Her reaction to Allens late-game scramble fit the moment in a stadium already keyed up by a tense finish, and it was the kind of quick broadcast cutaway that Bills fans do not see often, especially when it involves one of the most recognizable names connected to the franchise.
