Dan Campbell had one of those TV moments you can feel through the screen.
Late in the Lions’ 41-31 loss to the Bills on Thursday Night Football, with Detroit still clinging to a comeback chance and needing a stop down 10, Buffalo punched in a rushing touchdown to stretch the game out of reach. Right after that score, the cameras locked in on Campbell’s face and didn’t let go. The zoom was merciless.
“That zoom in was BRUTAL 😭,” a post read.
The look made sense. The Lions had spent the night chasing Buffalo after falling into an early hole, and the defense never found a way to slow Josh Allen. Detroit opened sluggishly and quickly trailed 21-0 before the offense finally got going.
Jared Goff did his part in the loss, throwing for 327 yards and four touchdowns, but the bigger picture was hard to ignore. The Bills kept landing blows, and the Lions kept giving away too many chances. Buffalo finished with 446 total yards, 34 first downs, and touchdowns on six of its first eight possessions.
Campbell didn’t sugarcoat any of it. During his halftime interview, he pointed directly at the self-inflicted damage, saying, “the little s**t is killing us right now.”
That theme showed up in the box score too. Detroit was flagged 10 times for 58 yards, and those mistakes helped Buffalo build a 27-10 lead by halftime. Later, Campbell summed up the defensive side of the night with a simple line: “we gave up too much.”
Even with Goff producing and the Lions scoring points, Buffalo’s defense kept Detroit uncomfortable all night, sacking Goff four times. Campbell also reminded everyone after the game that it’s still only Week 2.
