The Buffalo Bills continue their search for a new head coach, and the list of candidates is starting to take shape. On Saturday, the team completed an interview with Anthony Lynn, currently serving as the run game coordinator for the Washington Commanders. Lynn joins a growing pool of names under consideration as Buffalo looks to reset and retool for the future.
Here’s where the Bills’ coaching search stands so far:
- Joe Brady, Bills offensive coordinator (Interviewed)
- Brian Daboll, former Giants head coach (Interviewed)
- Anthony Lynn, Commanders run game coordinator (Interviewed)
- Grant Udinski, Jaguars offensive coordinator (Interview Scheduled)
- Anthony Weaver, Dolphins defensive coordinator (Interview Scheduled)
- Lou Anarumo, Colts defensive coordinator (Interview Scheduled)
- Mike McDaniel, Chargers offensive coordinator (Interview Scheduled)
- Philip Rivers, former Colts quarterback (Interviewed)
That’s a mix of offensive and defensive minds, veterans and rising stars, and even a former Pro Bowl quarterback. It’s clear Buffalo is casting a wide net - and with good reason. This is a pivotal hire for a franchise that’s been knocking on the door but hasn’t quite broken through.
One of the more intriguing names on that list is Anthony Weaver, currently calling the shots on defense for the Miami Dolphins. At 45, Weaver brings a blend of playing experience and coaching versatility that stands out.
Drafted in the second round by the Ravens back in 2002, Weaver carved out a solid seven-year NFL career as a defensive lineman with Baltimore and Houston. That firsthand knowledge of the trenches has shaped his coaching journey ever since.
Weaver got his coaching start in 2010 at the University of Florida as a graduate assistant. From there, he climbed the NFL ladder with stops in New York (Jets), Buffalo, and Cleveland, before landing in Houston as the Texans’ defensive line coach. In 2020, he was promoted to defensive coordinator - a role that further sharpened his leadership credentials.
After Houston, Weaver returned to Baltimore, this time as their run game coordinator and defensive line coach. He spent three seasons with the Ravens, helping mold one of the league’s more physical fronts, before taking over as Miami’s defensive coordinator in 2024.
Now, the Dolphins’ defense in 2025 didn’t exactly light up the stat sheet - they finished 22nd in total yards allowed, 24th in points allowed, 18th against the pass, and 26th against the run. But context matters.
Injuries, roster turnover, and scheme transitions all played a role. And even with those numbers, Weaver’s ability to connect with players and command a room hasn’t gone unnoticed around the league.
For Buffalo, this coaching search isn’t just about scheme - it’s about leadership, adaptability, and someone who can maximize the talent already on the roster. With interviews underway and more scheduled, the Bills are doing their homework. Whether they lean toward an offensive innovator, a defensive tactician, or a former player with a fresh perspective remains to be seen.
But one thing’s for sure: the next head coach in Buffalo will inherit a roster with playoff expectations and a fan base hungry for more. We’ll continue tracking developments as the Bills close in on their next leader.
