The Buffalo Bills had a little fun with LeBron James on Tuesday, tossing out a social media pitch after the NBA star became an official free agent.

Of course, nobody is expecting James to actually land in Buffalo. He’s not headed to the NFL, and at 41, he plans to keep playing basketball, just apparently not with the Lakers.
Still, the idea has a built-in appeal. James already has a Lake Erie connection, and his football résumé from St.
Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, still fuels the fantasy.
He was a star wide receiver there, and the only reason he wasn’t treated like a top college football recruit was that everyone knew basketball was the real destination.
Davante Adams has already made the case for what kind of receiver James could have been. Last year, he told Dan Patrick:
“He would've been one of the best receivers, tight ends, all time. No question...
He can fly, too. That's the thing.
He's one of the fastest NBA players. I've never seen someone cover space on the basketball court, like John Wall, Derrick Rose.”
The numbers from James’ junior year at St. Vincent-St. Mary back up the hype: 57 catches, 1,160 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Willie McGee, James’ quarterback, told Sporting News’ Bill Bender that the athletic tools were obvious every time he stepped on the field.
“He had the football speed, the acceleration, the ability to make people miss and was a punt-return-type guy,” LeBron's quarterback Willie McGee told Sporting News' Bill Bender. “His hands were amazing.
The ability to catch the ball, one hand, two hands, adjust to the ball in the air, it was uncanny. He could throw the ball, too.
You put him on a reverse, and he can throw it off that. There wasn't anything he couldn't do on a football field.”
So no, LeBron James isn’t actually joining the Bills. But if Josh Allen were ever looking for a ridiculous jump-ball target, the imagination writes itself.

Bills Still Have One Flaw That Could Haunt Them In January
Buffalo spent the offseason patching holes on both sides of the ball, and on paper the roster looks deeper and more balanced than it did a year ago. The defensive front has more help, the offense has more options, and there is a real sense that the Bills have tried to make life easier on everybody else by strengthening the pieces around them.
Still, one area remains a little less settled than the rest. The linebacker group is built around Terrel Bernard, Dorian Williams and rookie Kaleb Elarms-Orr, but there is still a clear need for the group to prove it can hold up week after week. If the front does its part, the linebackers may only have to be solid.
