Bills Fans Need This Jets Camp Reality Check Before AFC East Battle

As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the 2026 season, insights from a Jets expert reveal key factors that could influence the divisional rivalry's outcome.

The Bills may have swept the Jets last season, but the matchup still carries enough unpredictability to keep both sides honest. Buffalo won both meetings in 2025 by a combined 65-18, while New York stumbled through another ugly year and put even more pressure on Aaron Glenn as he heads into his next season on the sideline.

That’s why a pre-camp read on the Jets matters for Bills fans. Charlie Baduini, the Site Expert at The Jet Press, offered a look at where New York stands as training camp approaches and what expectations actually look like inside that fan base.

For Glenn, the bar is not high - and that says plenty. Baduini said Jets fans are mainly looking for something that feels functional after last year’s disaster.

" I think Jets fans just want to see Aaron Glenn put a respectable team on the field in 2026. It's fairly obvious there's still a decent-sized talent gap between themselves and the rest of the conference, particularly in their own division, and just want to see the team not get run off the field before halftime. If AG can pull that off, there's a good chance he's back in 2027."

One move that caught some attention was New York’s decision to keep Breece Hall. Baduini called that the right call, pointing to Hall as one of the team’s top offensive pieces behind Garrett Wilson.

" Retaining Breece Hall was the right move. Outside of Garrett Wilson, he's their best offensive player, and as I mentioned before, the Jets need to be competitive in 2026 if Glenn and Darren Mougey want to keep their jobs. Retaining Hall was a step in the right direction and sent a positive message to the locker room about players who want to be there."

The Jets also landed rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr. late in the first round, a name Bills fans would have preferred to see in Buffalo. Baduini said Cooper should get some early opportunities, but the path to major snaps is crowded.

" Omar Cooper Jr. should have some chances early on to contribute, but I believe he'll be third in the pecking order behind Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell. Throw in their other first-round pick, Kenyon Sadiq, and it's unclear if Cooper is going to have a chance to shine right away. Sure felt good snagging him one pick in front of Buffalo, though!"

If there’s a player who might be flying a little too far under the radar in New York, Baduini pointed to Adonai Mitchell. He said Mitchell has a real chance to matter because the Jets can actually use him as a clear No. 2 option in the passing game.

" Most Jets fans likely have Adonai Mitchell circled as their most overlooked player. He had some rough moments with the Colts, but was always buried on Indy's depth chart. In New York, he's easily the Jets' No. 2 option in the passing game, and early reports out of summer activities suggest he's primed for a breakout."

As for the Bills-Jets rivalry itself, Baduini said the home field wrinkle still gives New York a chance, even if he wouldn’t lean heavily that way.

" When it comes to divisional matchups, there's always a chance regardless of records. The Bills have owned the Jets over the last two years, and setting aside 2025, they always seem to play them well at MetLife Stadium. The Jets certainly have a shot when they play them at home, but I wouldn't bet on it or anything."

Stevie Johnson Just Raised The Stakes For Keon Coleman In Buffalo

Keon Coleman enters this season with more to prove than most third-year receivers, and the backdrop from last year still lingers. He was a healthy scratch for multiple games, his name popped up in trade speculation, and the noise around him only grew after the owners unusual comments, turning what should have been a developmental year into a test of patience and professionalism.

Now he is spending time with Stevie Johnson, one of the more productive receivers in Bills history, in an effort to sharpen the details of his game and reset the conversation. Johnson has been openly bullish on Colemans ceiling, and Buffalos new staff has signaled belief too, with Joe Brady planning to make him a major part of the offseason and Josh Allen voicing confidence in what Coleman can become. Bills Fans Should Watch This Receiver Battle More Closely Than Expected

Stephen Gosnells path through Buffalo has already followed the familiar undrafted-receiver route: sign, stick around, keep developing, and try to turn offseason reps into something more meaningful. After spending the 2025 season on the practice squad, the wideout is back in the Bills pipeline on a reserve/future deal and was part of offseason workouts heading toward 2026, which keeps him on the radar even if he is still more of a project than a roster lock.

The wider interest here is less about whether Gosnell crashes the 53-man roster and more about how Buffalo chooses to keep grooming him if he doesnt. A return to the practice squad remains a real possibility, and a gameday elevation during the season would not be out of the question if he continues to show growth. For a receiver group that always seems to have one or two jobs open to the right developmental player, Gosnell is the kind of name worth watching a little more closely than his current status suggests. Bills Fans May Not Have Realized They Just Saw This Pass Rusher's End

Joey Bosas one-year run in Buffalo may already stand as the last chapter of a decorated career, even if nothing has been officially announced. The five-time Pro Bowler gave the Bills real impact last season, staying on the field for 15 games and helping set the tone off the edge with production that fit exactly what Buffalo wanted from a veteran pass rusher.

The Bills have moved quickly to reshape that group since then, adding Bradley Chubb and drafting T.J. Parker to reinforce the pass rush. Bosa remains unsigned as free agency moves on, and for a player who once looked like a premium difference-maker, the longer he stays on the market, the more his lone season in Buffalo starts to look like the end of the line.
