Bills fans spent a week cooling off after the Ravens game, then snapped right back into belief after Buffalo’s latest statement win.
At 6-1 and alone atop the AFC, the Bills are in full control of their playoff path. That doesn’t lock anything in yet, and there’s still a long stretch ahead before anyone starts handing out seeding or postseason guarantees. But after what Buffalo did to Baltimore in Week 8, the mood around the team shifted fast.
For a fan base that has lived with enormous expectations since Josh Allen became the face of the franchise, that kind of swing is nothing new. The standard has long been bigger than division titles and strong regular seasons.
It’s AFC Championships. It’s Super Bowl wins.
And with every passing year, the pressure only grows louder because Allen’s window keeps ticking.
That urgency is part of what shaped co-owner Terry Pegula’s decision to move on from former head coach Sean McDermott. The sense was simple: time matters, and too much of it had already been spent. Accolades and numbers are nice, but they don’t compare to the Lombardi Trophy.
Now Joe Brady is in charge, with Jim Leonhard taking over as defensive coordinator, and both are getting their first real shot at NFL stardom with the league’s biggest star leading the way. That comes with a lot of expectation, and Bills fans have made it clear they want perfection from a 2026 season that still has plenty of football left to unfold.
Even so, the Ravens win was enough to move the needle in a big way. Our latest Reacts results show 86% of voters are confident in the team’s direction under Brady and president of football operations/general manger Brandon Beane. That’s a 23-point jump from last week’s 63%.
The defensive performance clearly helped. Damar Hamlin, in particular, looked like a strong fit as both an emotional and schematic leader in Leonhard’s system.
At the very least, it points to the kind of aggressive, physical defense Buffalo may be building behind its high-powered offense. The Bills already own the league’s top-scoring attack by a wide margin, and if the defense keeps trending this way, they should have the kind of balance that carries deep into the season.
Of course, they’ll still need the right breaks at the right time.
Week 9 brings another purple opponent, with the Minnesota Vikings coming to town carrying their own 6-1 record. Buffalo will try to put another clean stamp on its offensive identity in front of a national audience. If you’re still not sold on the Bills, that’s the next chance to change the conversation.
We also asked Rumblers what position they’d like Buffalo to target before the NFL trade deadline, and safety came out far ahead. Even with Hamlin’s strong outing, that spot drew 72% of the vote. Linebacker was the next closest choice, while wide receiver got 9% and only 3% of voters wanted the Bills to add elsewhere.
And if there was any doubt about Allen’s standing around the league, one of this week’s national polls cleared that up too: he’s being viewed as the NFL MVP through Week 8.
Minnesota’s side of the matchup comes with its own uncertainty. The Vikings are 6-1 as well, and they do have a championship-caliber defense that may not be getting enough attention. But the offense has been inconsistent with either Kyler Murray or Carson Wentz at quarterback, and rumors have already started to swirl about a possible trade for another quarterback.
How that plays out could depend on Monday Night Football, but the current mood in Minnesota is shaky. The Vikings just took their first loss of the season, and only 17% of their fans are confident in the team’s direction.

Bills Face Growing Tackle Concern Ahead Of Monday Night
The Bills injury report brought a little good news on the second day of practice, with Ty Johnson back on the field and Dalton Kincaid upgraded to full participation. But the bigger concern remains up front, where Dion Dawkins and Alec Anderson are still sidelined and Spencer Brown is working in a limited capacity as Buffalo prepares for Monday night.
For a team trying to keep its offense steady in a prime-time matchup, the tackle situation is the one to watch most closely. The Bills have some movement elsewhere on the report, but the status of their edge protection will loom largest as the week goes on, especially with Minnesota also dealing with a notable injury update of its own. Josh Allen And Bills Line Face A Brutal Test In Minnesota
Spencer Brown knows the Bills are walking into one of the leagues toughest defensive environments in Minnesota, where Brian Flores has built a pressure-heavy scheme that forces quarterbacks to process quickly and the offensive line to hold up under constant stress. The Vikings have the NFLs top scoring defense, and their aggressive blitz approach makes this a particularly sharp test for Buffalos protection plan and for Josh Allens ability to stay composed when plays break down around him.
For the Bills, the challenge is not just identifying where the rush is coming from, but surviving long enough to let Allen do what he does best when structure starts to disappear. His mobility gives Buffalo a possible answer to the Vikings pressure, and Browns comments made clear that the line knows how demanding the assignment will be, even before the first snap is taken. Dalton Kincaid Still Leaves Bills Fans Waiting On One Week 9 Answer
Dalton Kincaid gave the Bills a much better look on Friday, turning in a full practice after being limited earlier in the week. For Buffalo, that is the kind of late-week progress that usually matters most at tight end, especially when the offense is trying to keep its options open heading into Week 9.
The final injury report still leaves a little room for caution, but Kincaids workload trend points in the right direction. Around the league, Jake Ferguson is dealing with a low-ankle sprain in Dallas and Hunter Henry remains in question for New England with a foot injury, a reminder that the tight end spot can swing quickly from day to day. For the Bills, the only thing left now is the last bit of confirmation. [Read more 🡒]
