The Bills are walking into Monday Night Football with the AFC standings hanging in the balance.
Because Buffalo is the last team in the league to play this week, Sunday’s results already nudged the picture around them. A lot of AFC teams picked up wins against NFC opponents, and with several clubs sitting on three victories, the difference between a Bills win and a Bills loss is enormous.
At the top, the Kansas City Chiefs remain the league’s only unbeaten AFC team at 4-0, and they’re on a bye in Week 5. That leaves them a half-game ahead of everyone else no matter how Monday night shakes out.
Just behind them, the Baltimore Ravens moved to 4-1 with a Sunday night win, joining the Jacksonville Jaguars at 4-1 in second place in the conference. Both teams got there by squeezing out late wins over NFC opponents, which only raises the pressure on Buffalo to answer with one of its own.
If the Bills beat the Rams, they stay in solid shape. A win locks them in as the AFC East leader and leaves them at 2-1 in conference play, good enough to remain fourth in the AFC behind Kansas City, Baltimore, and Jacksonville.
A loss, though, would drop Buffalo into a crowded mess at 3-2. It would also push the Bills behind the New England Patriots in the AFC East because of last week’s head-to-head loss. From there, Buffalo would be stuck in the thick of the wild-card pack.
That middle tier is packed. In the AFC North, the Browns, Steelers, and Bengals are all 3-2 behind the 4-1 Ravens. The Broncos and Raiders are both 3-2 in the AFC West, too, and both still have the Bills on the schedule later this season.
A Buffalo loss would leave the Bills tied for fifth place in the AFC at 3-2, with a 2-1 conference record. Denver would be sitting in the same spot with the same AFC mark.
Here’s how the AFC looks right now:
Kansas City Chiefs (4-0)
Baltimore Ravens (4-1, 2-0 AFC)
Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1, 3-1 AFC)
Buffalo Bills (3-1)
New England Patriots (3-2, 2-1 AFC)
Denver Broncos (3-2, 2-2 AFC)
Las Vegas Raiders (3-2, 2-2 AFC)
Cleveland Browns (3-2, 1-0 AFCN, 1-2 AFC)
Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2, 1-1 AFCN)
Cincinnati Bengals (3-2, 0-1 AFCN)
New York Jets (2-3, 2-0 AFC)
Indianapolis Colts (2-3, 1-3 AFC)
Houston Texans (1-4)
Miami Dolphins (0-5)
Los Angeles Chargers (0-5)
Tennessee Titans (0-5)

Bills Bring A Crucial Week 5 Edge Into Rams Matchup
Monday night brings a notable injury edge into Buffalos matchup with the Rams, and the Bills will be watching the final availability report closely before kickoff. Los Angeles is dealing with a longer list of concerns, while Buffalos side of the ledger is much cleaner, a small but meaningful advantage as the Bills prepare for a prime-time test on the road.
The Rams uncertainty is centered on several familiar names who could shape both sides of the ball, while Buffalo has just one player carrying an injury designation into the game. For a Bills team trying to keep momentum in Week 5, that contrast matters as much as any prediction column or viewing guide, because the difference between a full lineup and a patched-together one can decide how much pressure Monday night really puts on each sideline. Bills Passing Game Suddenly Hinges On One Week 5 Decision
DJ Moores Week 4 shoulder issue is already shaping Buffalos approach for Week 5, with the veteran receiver missing significant practice time leading up to the matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. The Bills have had to adjust on the fly around that absence, and the passing game has looked a little different because of it.
Keon Coleman has been one of the biggest beneficiaries, picking up more snaps and production while Moore has been limited, and the opportunity could grow again if Buffalo has to navigate Sunday without its top option at full strength. Khalil Shakir has also helped absorb the workload, with Josh Palmer unavailable, leaving the Bills to sort out how much of the aerial offense they can comfortably ask of the rest of the receiver room. Bills Late Roster Move Puts Extra Focus On Their Secondary Depth
With the Bills heading into Week 5 against the Rams, they made a late roster adjustment that speaks to how carefully theyre managing the back end of the defense. Buffalo signed cornerback Anthony Kendall from the practice squad to the active roster, a move that adds another body to a secondary room that can always use more depth as the season settles in.
Kendall has been waiting for this chance since landing on Buffalos practice squad, and the promotion gives the Bills another look at a player with some untapped value. It also came with a corresponding roster shuffle, with the team making room by moving on from a veteran linebacker, a reminder that these September and early-October decisions are rarely just about one player at a time.
