Bills Face A Real Early Test Despite Chargers Rough Start

As the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers prepare for their high-stakes match, experts weigh in on whether Justin Herbert can counter Josh Allen's powerful offense, sparking curiosity in prediction markets.

The Bills and Chargers head into Sunday’s Week 3 meeting from very different places, and the prediction markets are leaning hard toward Buffalo.

The 2-0 Bills return home after more than a week to get ready for the cross-country visit from Los Angeles. Josh Allen has fueled an offense that has piled up 77 points in two games, including five touchdowns against Detroit. Through two weeks, Buffalo leads the NFL with 38.5 points per game, 7.07 yards per play and 9.43 passing yards per play.

Los Angeles has had a rougher start. The Chargers are 0-2 after losing both home games 26-14, and Justin Herbert had three turnovers in the Week 2 loss to the Raiders. Still, Herbert gives the Chargers a chance to challenge a Bills defense that has allowed 31 points in each game and surrendered six plays of at least 20 yards to the Lions last week.

On Polymarket, Buffalo is the clear favorite on the moneyline at 76¢, while the Chargers sit at 25¢. The spread is also tight enough to matter, with Chargers +7.5 priced at 53¢ and Bills -7.5 at 48¢. The game total is split, with Over 50.5 at 49¢ and Under 50.5 at 52¢.

The quarterback props are also drawing attention, though the board is crowded with prices near 99¢. Allen’s passing yards over 174.5 and under 174.5 are both listed at 99¢, while his passing touchdowns over 1.5 is at 98¢ and under 1.5 at 99¢. His passing attempts over 23.5 and under 23.5 are both priced at 99¢.

Herbert’s numbers are set up similarly. His passing yards over 174.5 and under 174.5 are both at 99¢, his passing touchdowns over 1.5 is at 98¢ and under 1.5 at 99¢, and his passing attempts over 27.5 and under 27.5 are both at 99¢.

Dimers’ prediction lands with Buffalo, projecting a 29-21 Bills win and giving the home team a 76.1% chance to win. The cover call is Bills -7.5, with Buffalo at 52.9% to get there. The reasoning is straightforward: Buffalo has been the more efficient offense, while Los Angeles has had trouble finishing drives.

That efficiency gap shows up in the numbers. Buffalo leads the league in passing yards per play at 9.43, while the Chargers rank 29th against the pass.

Los Angeles has also lost both games by 12 points and turned it over three times through the air and twice on the ground over the first two weeks. The Bills, though, will need to avoid giving Herbert the kind of openings that have kept their first two opponents in striking distance.

The anytime touchdown projections reflect that balance. For Los Angeles, Omarion Hampton leads the way at 49.4%, followed by Ladd McConkey at 29.8%, Quentin Johnston at 25.2%, Oronde Gadsden II at 22.0% and Keaton Mitchell at 17.8%. On Buffalo’s side, James Cook is at 58.7%, Josh Allen at 53.9%, DJ Moore at 35.2%, Dalton Kincaid at 29.0% and Khalil Shakir at 24.8%.

The projected stat lines point to a productive day for both quarterbacks. Allen is projected for 243 passing yards, while Herbert is projected for 228.

On the ground, James Cook is projected for 86 rushing yards, Allen for 37, Ray Davis for 15, Omarion Hampton for 62, Keaton Mitchell for 26 and Herbert for 25. Through the air, Dalton Kincaid and DJ Moore are both projected for 55 receiving yards, followed by Khalil Shakir at 46, Keon Coleman at 31 and James Cook at 17.

For the Chargers, Ladd McConkey is projected for 57 receiving yards, Quentin Johnston for 41, Tre Harris for 39, Oronde Gadsden II for 35 and Omarion Hampton for 15.

Buffalo has the firepower to seize control, but Herbert has enough talent to make the Bills work for it. That mix is why Sunday’s game offers more to watch than just the final score, especially for traders following the spread, total and quarterback props as it plays out.

Bills Fans Just Got An Unexpected NFL Celebration Controversy

Amon-Ra St. Browns Week 2 night against the Bills is still echoing well beyond the final whistle. The Lions wide receiver was fined four times by the NFL for his celebrations in that game, with each penalty topping $14,000, turning what had been a high-energy performance into one of the leagues latest discipline stories.

The NFL also handed out celebration fines to several other players, including Kyle Juszczyk, JaMarr Chase and Matt Goncalves, and described some of the actions as offensive demonstrations. For Buffalo fans, its a reminder that the leagues crackdown can reach well past the box score, even when the game itself is long over. [Read more 🡒]

Bills Face A Ground Game Test Fans May Not Expect

The Bills are about to run into a Chargers defense that has made an early habit of smothering the ground game. Los Angeles enters the matchup leading the league in yards allowed per rushing attempt and ranking seventh in yards allowed per game, and the numbers have been backed up by the tape rather than by a lucky stretch of opponents or a small-sample illusion.

What makes it more interesting for Buffalo is that the Chargers have been consistent in the dirty work, too, not just in keeping runners bottled up but in finishing plays with tackles for loss and standing firm in tight spaces. The sample is still relatively small, and some outside runs have found more room, but this looks like a real test for a Bills offense that may need to earn its yards the hard way. [Read more 🡒]

Bills-Chargers History Is Full Of Buffalos Best And Worst Memories

The Bills and Chargers have been tangled together for as long as Buffalo football has had a modern history, with the rivalry reaching back to the American Football League days in 1960. Buffalo owns some of the most cherished wins in the series, including AFL championship victories over San Diego in 1964 and 1965, and the matchup has had enough postseason weight over the years to give the Bills a 2-1 edge in playoff meetings.

Still, the larger series has tilted the other way, with the Chargers holding a 25-14-2 lead overall, and the games between these teams have produced a few unforgettable oddities along the way. There was the 2008 delay at Orchard Park caused by a power outage, and the 2017 meeting that turned into a nightmare for rookie Nathan Peterman, reminders that this one has never really been short on either drama or pain for Buffalo fans.
