Bills Face A Huge Week 8 Test As Ravens Get Healthier

With both teams facing pivotal moments in their seasons, the Bills and Ravens clash at Buffalo in a game packed with intriguing storylines, key injuries, and coaching debuts, spelling high stakes and heightened drama.

Bills fans finally get their home team back in Orchard Park, and the timing couldn’t be much bigger. After a stretch that included back-to-back West Coast trips and the bye week, Buffalo is back at home for the first time since October 4, with Baltimore rolling in for an AFC showdown that carries plenty of weight for both sides.

The Ravens arrive trying to shake off two straight divisional losses and sitting at the bottom of the AFC North heading into Week 8. Buffalo, meanwhile, is trying to protect a streak that has held for 11 seasons: the Bills have not lost their game coming out of the bye week in that span. Joe Brady now has the task of keeping that run alive and getting Buffalo to 6-1 against a Ravens team that has given the Bills problems in recent meetings.

This is also the first meeting between the teams since Week 1 of last season, when Baltimore blew a 4th quarter 40-25 lead and wound up losing 41-40. The matchup now comes with both clubs featuring new rookie head coaches, which only adds to the intrigue around what should be one of the day’s biggest games.

For fans tuning in, the game can be heard on 97 Rock with Chris Brown, Eric Wood, and Steve Tasker. It will also be available on Sports USA Radio with Josh Appel and Mike White.

Buffalo’s injury report brings some uncertainty into the day. The Bills listed six players as game-time decisions on Friday, along with one player already ruled out.

Greg Gaines was a full participant on Wednesday and Thursday before showing up with a calf injury. TJ Parker was limited earlier in the week but finished Friday as a full participant.

The rest of the group never got beyond limited work.

Tyrell Shavers had his practice window opened this week, so his status was not a surprise when he was ruled out. If Buffalo ends up without DJ Moore and/or Dalton Kincaid, the offense could be operating with a shorter hand.

Baltimore’s injury list is shorter, but the Ravens already know they’ll be without a key piece on the offensive line. Rookie Vega Ioane, Baltimore’s first-round pick in this year’s draft, suffered an MCL sprain in Week 7 against the Bengals and will miss this game as well. Jaylinn Hawkins is also out after missing Week 7, leaving the Ravens thinner in the secondary for a second straight week.

The biggest personnel news for Baltimore, though, is the return of Lamar Jackson. The quarterback is back after missing the last three games with an ankle injury. He had been close to playing against Cincinnati before the Ravens ultimately ruled him out.

One of the main questions in this game is whether Buffalo’s run defense can hold up against Derrick Henry. The Bills have been much better against the run this season, allowing 101 yards per game, a noticeable step forward from last year.

But Henry has already shown what he can do against Buffalo. In Week 1 last season, he ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns and averaged more than 9 yards per carry against the Bills.

That challenge is made even tougher by the way Baltimore can punish a defense once Henry gets into space. Buffalo’s defense is built to limit the run, but Henry has a long track record of turning a crease into a problem.

There’s also a play-calling battle worth watching between Joe Brady and Jesse Minter. Brady’s offense has been explosive, while Minter’s defensive game plans have been solid even if the execution from his players has not always matched it. With both men serving as rookie head coaches and calling their own units, this is the kind of matchup that could swing the game when Buffalo’s offense is on the field against Baltimore’s defense.

The Ravens are under pressure to respond after those two divisional losses, and a defeat here would drop them to 4-4. Buffalo, though, gets the kind of setup it wants: a bye week behind it, a home crowd back in the building, and a chance to keep a long-running streak intact against a dangerous opponent.

Bills Fans Have A Real Dalton Kincaid Concern Entering Week 8

Dalton Kincaids Week 8 status is the kind of tight end update Bills fans have learned to watch closely, especially after he was listed as questionable with a chest injury. He managed three limited practices and, even with the designation hanging over him, there is at least some optimism around his availability as Buffalo heads into the weekend.

The concern is more about how the week unfolded than the final label itself. Kincaid came out of the bye in a non-contact jersey, a detail that naturally raised eyebrows, and the Bills are still waiting to see how his body responds as game day approaches. Around the league, other tight ends are dealing with their own late-week injury uncertainty, but for Buffalo the focus remains on whether Kincaid can be ready to go when it matters most. Ed Olivers Return Could Change Everything For Buffalos Defense

Ed Olivers season has already become one of those quiet but meaningful storylines that can shape a defense far beyond the box score. The Bills have missed him for multiple games because of injuries, and he has been on the field for only three games so far, but the difference in how Buffalo plays with him out there has been hard to ignore. When Oliver is active, the front looks more disruptive, the run fits are cleaner and the whole unit seems to settle into a better rhythm.

His absence has also been felt around him, with Greg Rousseau and Deone Walker both seeing their own production dip during the stretch he has missed. For a defense built on pressure and interior disruption, getting Oliver back would not just be about adding one player to the lineup, it could help restore the edge and energy that have been missing. The bigger question now is whether Buffalo can get that version of the defense back in time to matter. [Read more 🡒]

Bills Enter Ravens Showdown With One Edge Fans Might Be Overlooking

As Buffalo prepares for a marquee matchup with Baltimore, one of its quietest advantages has become impossible to ignore. The Bills special teams unit has surged to the top of Pro Football Focus NFL rankings, a reflection of the steady work being done by kicker Tyler Bass and rookie punter Tommy Doman, who has quickly settled into a meaningful role flipping field position. Head coach Joe Brady has been quick to point out how much that phase of the game matters to Buffalos broader success.

It is the kind of edge that can get lost in the buildup to a heavyweight showdown, but it could matter just as much as the more obvious matchup points on Sunday. Buffalos special teams have been consistently sharp, and with Baltimore on deck, the Bills will be leaning on every hidden yard they can find while fans also sort through the broadcast and streaming details for the game.
