Bills Defense Just Got A Much Bigger Week 8 Problem

Lamar Jackson's return for the Ravens' crucial matchup against the Bills could be the turning point they need in this tight AFC race.

The Ravens are getting their quarterback back at exactly the right time.

After a few weeks without Lamar Jackson, Baltimore will have him under center Sunday against the Buffalo Bills in Week 8, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. Zrebiec reported Friday afternoon that head coach Jesse Minter told reporters Jackson will play.

"Minter said that QB Lamar Jackson will play Sunday," Zrebiec shared on Friday afternoon before Week 8.

Jackson has missed three games after suffering an ankle injury in Baltimore’s Week 4 win over the Tennessee Titans, and the Ravens have felt it. Tyler Huntley opened with a win over the Atlanta Falcons in his first start, but Baltimore has gone 1-2 in Jackson’s absence and sits at 4-3.

The most painful part came in Week 6, when the Ravens were on the brink of a 2-1 run with Huntley before a late collapse against the Cleveland Browns spoiled it.

Now Baltimore heads into its toughest test since Jackson went down, and it comes with the franchise quarterback back in the lineup. Through four games this season, Jackson had thrown for 967 yards with six touchdowns and just one interception.

His return could also be a boost for Derrick Henry, who has struggled lately, while Zay Flowers and Ja'Kobi Lane are good to go as well. That gives the Ravens a chance to bring more firepower to a Bills defense that has been leaky this season.

The matchup still won’t be simple. Buffalo enters Week 8 at 5-1 and sitting atop the AFC East. But for a Ravens team trying to keep pace in a crowded AFC North, getting Jackson back changes the mood in a hurry.

James Cook Faces A Huge Bills Test Against Baltimore

Buffalos rushing game has become one of the defining pieces of its offense, with James Cook giving the Bills a real jolt on the ground all season. He has piled up 627 rushing yards and six touchdowns, production that has helped give Buffalo balance and kept defenses honest, but the conversation around him has not been limited to the big plays. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady has already pointed to Cooks ball security as an area the Bills need to keep tightening up.

Now comes a Baltimore defense that will make that part of the equation matter even more. The Ravens bring a top-10 run defense into the matchup, so Buffalos ability to stay committed on the ground and get efficient work from Cook could go a long way toward shaping the game. For a Bills offense that likes to lean on its rushing attack, this is the kind of test that can quickly show whether that success travels against one of the leagues tougher fronts. [Read more 🡒]

Josh Allen Could Be Headed For A Huge Bills Statement Game

Josh Allen is entering another matchup with the kind of spotlight that tends to follow him when the Bills need a defining offensive performance. The setup is familiar enough: Buffalos game plan leans into his dual-threat ability, and recent form has made him one of the most dangerous red-zone weapons in the league.

There is also a practical edge to the conversation around this one, with the Bills managing protection questions and trying to make the most of their goal-line opportunities. If the blocking holds up, Allen could be in position to put his stamp on the game in a way that changes the tone around Buffalos offense going forward. [Read more 🡒]

Bills Face A Deadline Problem Despite Their First-Place Start

The Bills are sitting in first place, but the calendar is turning toward the NFL trade deadline with a familiar kind of roster tension. Buffalo has been weighing ways to help its defense, and the shopping list makes the needs fairly clear even without a deal on the table yet. Injuries and some recent performance trends have only added to the urgency, making this a stretch where the front office has to decide whether a modest move is enough or whether staying patient is the better play.

What complicates everything is the cap situation, which leaves Buffalo working with very little room to maneuver. The team can look at help across the defense, but any serious addition will require creativity, patience, and probably a narrower field of options than contenders usually prefer at this time of year.
