Bills Bring Back Tre'Davious White With Secondary Pressure Building

Deck: Veteran cornerback Tre'Davious White reunites with the Bills as they bolster their struggling secondary, setting the stage for a potential comeback.

The Buffalo Bills are bringing back Tre'Davious White, and the move arrives with a clear purpose: shore up a secondary that has been getting hammered through the air.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report that Buffalo is signing the cornerback to the practice squad, with the expectation that the team will get him up to speed before moving him onto the active roster. Schefter also reported that White “turned down several opportunities” to return to Buffalo.

White, a first-round pick in 2017, has spent most of his career with the Bills. From 2017 to 2023, he was Buffalo’s top corner.

He spent part of 2024 with the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens before coming back to Buffalo last season. In 2025, he appeared in 16 regular-season games and two playoff games.

His resume in Buffalo is a big part of why this reunion matters. White was a two-time Pro Bowl selection during his first stint with the team, earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2019, and was a second-team All-Pro in 2020. Bills general manager Brandon Beane had already left the door open months ago, saying in April, “You would never close the door on bringing a guy like Tre back here to Buffalo,”

The timing fits the Bills’ defensive needs. Buffalo is giving up the third-most completions per game at 26.2, the second-most passing yards per game at 285.8, nearly 11 yards per completion, and the second-most passing first downs per game at 15.8.

There are still questions about what White has left at 31. Pro Football Focus ranked him 52nd among 114 eligible cornerbacks last year, and while the plan is to get him to the 53-man roster, that is not locked in. His role will depend on how he looks once he starts working in Jim Leonhard’s new system.

White’s career numbers still show a player who has made plenty of plays: 373 combined tackles, 18 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, 83 passes defended, and 19 interceptions. But he has not had more than one interception in a season since 2020, when he had three, and 12 of his 19 career picks came in his first three seasons.

Buffalo will get its first look at him when the team returns to prepare for the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, November 4. Playing that week seems unlikely, but the idea is to have White ready for the toughest stretch of the Bills’ schedule as they try to hold off the New England Patriots.

Bills Trade Debate Centers On A Risky Receiver Target

A trade-deadline conversation around Brian Thomas Jr. has started to pick up because the Bills could use another dynamic option at wide receiver, and the Jaguars pass catcher is at least the kind of name that makes sense on paper. Buffalo has spent plenty of time looking for ways to keep its offense dangerous around Josh Allen, and Thomas brings the sort of size and playmaking profile that would naturally get attention if Jacksonville were willing to listen.

The catch is that this is a gamble, not a clean upgrade. Thomass recent production has raised real questions about whether his value matches the price it would take to pry him away, and any deal would also come with a meaningful financial layer for Buffalo to sort through. For a team trying to balance immediate help against long-term flexibility, that makes this one of those speculative deadline ideas that is easy to talk about and much harder to justify once the full cost comes into view. Bills Third Down Problem Is Becoming Harder To Ignore

Buffalos defense has been living with a third-down issue that keeps showing up at the worst possible times. The Bills have had trouble getting off the field all season, and the problem has grown more noticeable in recent games, including a stretch against the Raiders in which those stops were hard to come by. For a unit that has usually been defined by its speed and cohesion, the repeated breakdowns have made third down a point of real concern.

Some of the answer may come from cleaner execution and fewer late reactions once the defense gets everyone moving in the same direction again. TreDavious Whites return is part of that conversation, since his ability to recognize what an offense is trying to do could help settle things down and reduce the kind of hesitation that has been costing Buffalo in key moments. The Bills do not need a dramatic overhaul as much as they need a sharper response when the game turns into a must-stop situation. [Read more 🡒]

Bills Hit With Another Ugly Discipline Issue As Fallout Grows

The Bills lingering discipline problem grew louder this week after safety and special teams contributor Sam Franklin Jr. was hit with a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct. The punishment stems from an accusation that Franklin spit on a Las Vegas Raiders player after the game, a moment that followed the final extra point attempt and drew no penalty on the field.

For Buffalo, the ugly part is not just the league action but the timing. This is the second time in four days a Bills player has been accused of spitting on an opponent, turning what should have been a routine finish into another unwanted storyline the team now has to manage. [Read more 🡒]
