Another Former Bill Just Added To Buffalos Secondary Debate

The Denver Broncos bolster their secondary by reportedly signing Super Bowl-winning safety Taylor Rapp, adding depth and experience to their defensive lineup.

The Broncos have added another veteran piece to a defense that already looks loaded, and this one comes with a Super Bowl ring.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Denver is signing safety Taylor Rapp, who most recently played for the Buffalo Bills and also spent time with the Los Angeles Rams. Schefter reported Thursday morning ahead of Preseason Week 2 for Denver: "Former Bills safety Taylor Rapp signed today with the Denver Broncos,"

Rapp enters a safety group that already has Talanoa Hufanga and Brandon Jones at the top of the depth chart. That duo gives the Broncos a strong starting tandem, and the main remaining question was depth. With Rapp now in the mix, Denver has addressed that area with a proven veteran.

The 28-year-old was drafted by the Rams in the second round, No. 61 overall, in 2019. He was part of the Rams’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2021, and that season also marked the best stretch of his career, when he came up with four interceptions.

His most recent stop was Buffalo, where he appeared in just six games last season. Even so, his body of work over seven NFL seasons is substantial: 92 games played, 72 starts.

Rapp’s career numbers show a player who has done a little bit of everything in the secondary. He has 12 interceptions, one pick-six, 31 passes defended, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, two sacks, 488 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits. His rookie year alone included 100 tackles.

In coverage, he has allowed a 91.0 passer rating for his career. That number was 78.6 last season, though it rose to 109.2 in 2024.

For Denver, the move adds another experienced option behind Hufanga and Jones, with JL Skinner, Devon Key, Miles Scott, Tycen Anderson, and Parker Robertson also in the mix for depth roles. It’s a straightforward addition, but one that gives the Broncos more security and flexibility in the back end.

Bills Rookie Corner Just Forced His Way Into The Conversation

Kani Walkers preseason has already taken on the kind of edge undrafted rookies need to survive in Buffalo. Battling through an injury that had left his availability in question, the rookie corner was active late, got into the game in the third quarter against Carolina and then flashed the traits that have kept him in the conversation all camp. His interception of a Kyle Trask screen in the fourth quarter came at just the right time, the sort of play that grabs attention in a crowded defensive backfield.

For the Bills, it was another reminder that training camp progress can show up quickly once the games start counting for evaluation. Coaches have already taken notice of Walkers physical tools and the way he has developed over the summer, and the pick only strengthened that case. It also gave him a notable line in the teams preseason story, one that should keep his name in the mix as Buffalo keeps sorting out its cornerback depth. [Read more 🡒]

Landon Jackson Is Giving Bills Fans A New D-Line Question

Landon Jackson has spent training camp looking like a player who is starting to settle into Buffalos defensive line conversation a little earlier than expected. The rookie has added about 20 pounds since last season, and that extra size has shown up in the way he carries himself on the field. It also helped him make a noticeable impression in the preseason opener against Carolina, where he was around the ball enough to get the kind of early attention that always matters for a young pass rusher.

For a Bills defense that already has its share of moving parts, Jacksons emergence adds another layer to watch as the roster picture keeps taking shape. Cole Bishop and Maxwell Hairston also returned to practice after sitting out the opener, giving Buffalo a fuller look at two projected starters, but the more intriguing long-term question may be how quickly Jackson turns this added bulk and confidence into a real role once the games start counting. Christian Benford Now Carries A Big Bills Concern Into 2026

The Bills head into 2026 with a familiar kind of unease in the secondary, and Christian Benford sits right at the center of it. Buffalo has questions about the durability of its top cornerbacks, but Benfords path has also shown why the team still leans on him so heavily. Drafted in 2022 and locked into a four-year contract before last season, he shook off an uneven start to 2025 and became one of the more important defenders on the roster as the year wore on.

Benfords late-season surge included key interceptions and a defensive touchdown, the sort of impact plays that remind the Bills why his role matters beyond coverage snaps. Injuries kept him out for stretches along the way, though, and that is what makes his standing so notable now. He enters 2026 healthy and expected to help lead a group Buffalo badly needs to hold together, even as the larger durability concern around the position remains unresolved. [Read more 🡒]
