Nets Unbeaten Start Faces A Bigger Test As Rotation Gets Stronger

With undefeated records at stake, the Nets and Wizards face off in a high-stakes preseason showdown.

The Brooklyn Nets head into Monday night with a chance to keep their perfect preseason rolling, and they won’t be the only unbeaten team on the floor. The Washington Wizards also arrive at 2-0, setting up a matchup between two clubs that have already handled business in the exhibition slate.

Brooklyn has looked sharp in both of its games so far. The Nets opened with a 124-90 win over the Charlotte Hornets last Tuesday, then followed it up with a 114-108 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday. Washington, meanwhile, has already survived two tight ones, edging the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

The Nets should also get a boost to their lineup. Michael Porter Jr. and Day’Ron Sharpe are expected back after both sat out Thursday’s game.

Porter Jr. missed that contest with left wrist soreness, while Sharpe was out because of left shoulder soreness. Their return gives Brooklyn another chance to evaluate how the pieces fit as the preseason winds along.

Brooklyn has spread the scoring around through its first two games. Porter Jr. led the way against Charlotte with 16 points, while Julius Randle scored 13 in his first preseason outing with the Nets. Nolan Traoré added 10 points off the bench in that one.

Against Philadelphia, Randle paced Brooklyn with 14 points and six rebounds. Egor Dëmin finished with 13 points and five assists, Keon Ellis and Traoré each scored 12, and Noah Clowney added 11.

Brooklyn’s injury list is down to two rookies. Mikel Brown Jr. and Joshua Jefferson remain sidelined, though Brown has taken clear steps forward.

He practiced fully over the weekend after recovering from an ankle injury and also went through a five-on-five session Monday morning. The sixth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft is expected to make his preseason debut Wednesday against the Miami Heat.

Jefferson, who has yet to appear in a preseason game, is still working toward his first action.

Washington has found ways to win in different styles. Anthony Davis led the way in Thursday’s 111-109 win over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Trae Young had 15 points and Kyshawn George contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Wizards then turned around and took a 114-108 overtime win over Detroit on Saturday. Will Riley and Tre Johnson each scored 15 points, AJ Dybantsa added 14 points and seven rebounds, and George scored 14 as well. Saturday also marked the preseason debut of third-year big man Alex Sarr, giving Washington another look at its frontcourt rotation.

Washington will be without Tristan Vukcevic, who is dealing with a hip injury, and Jamir Watkins, who has a knee issue. Khris Middleton and Tre Mann both missed Saturday’s game, but both are expected to be available Monday. Middleton has not played in either preseason game so far.

For Brooklyn, this is the final road preseason game before Wednesday’s meeting with Miami. With Porter Jr. and Sharpe back in the fold, the Nets will get one more useful test against a Wizards team that has already proven it can win close games.

Nets Just Unveiled A Throwback Look Fans Are Already Loving

The Nets are leaning into their history in a big way for 2026-27, unveiling a classic-edition uniform that honors the franchises ABA roots as part of the NBAs collaboration with Nike. Brooklyn is set to celebrate its 60th season with Eras Nights, and the throwback look will be worn 16 times as the team puts a sharper spotlight on the early years that helped shape its identity.

Theres also a timing element that should make the rollout feel even bigger for fans, with the new uniform slated to arrive right as the season gets going and the team shows off a new court design. It adds another layer to an offseason that already changed the look of the roster, with Brooklyn bringing in Julius Randle, signing Keon Ellis and Moe Wagner, and drafting Mikel Brown Jr. with the No. 6 pick. Nets Fans Finally Have A Real Mikel Brown Jr. Question

Mikel Brown Jr. is finally at the point where the questions around him are less about whether he belongs and more about when Brooklyn will actually get to see him in uniform. The rookie point guard, the Nets highest draft pick of the Brooklyn era, will miss the teams third preseason game, but he has been fully involved in recent practices while continuing to learn Jordi Fernandezs system after flashing promise in Summer League.

For a Nets team trying to sort out its next backcourt, Browns development has been one of the more closely watched storylines of camp. Fernandez has already voiced optimism about Brown and fellow rookie Egor Demin as pieces of the teams future, and Browns next checkpoint is the one fans have been waiting for all along: his first preseason run, assuming there are no setbacks between now and then. Egor Demin Is Giving Nets Fans A Reason To Believe Again

Egor Demin has quickly become one of the more encouraging developments for a Nets team still trying to restore some optimism around Barclays Center. The young guard has spoken about the standard Brooklyn needs to meet every night, stressing that the effort and energy have to be there no matter the opponent or the score, and his own play has started to reflect that mindset. As Demin settles into the point guard role, he is giving the Nets another option in a backcourt that could use more stability and flexibility.

That growth matters because Brooklyn is looking for signs that the floor is rising, not just the ceiling. Demins progress gives Jordi Fernandez something to work with in shaping the guard rotation, while Julius Randle has also provided value with his play and his presence in the locker room. If those pieces keep moving in the right direction, the Nets may have a better chance of making home games feel like events again, which is part of the larger push to bring more fans back through the doors.
