The Brooklyn Nets are getting plenty of love for their latest look, and this one comes with a heavy dose of franchise history.

On Monday, the team unveiled its 2026-27 classic edition uniform, a throwback that honors the Nets’ ABA roots. The jersey is the same design Brooklyn wore from 1968 to 1972, and the rollout is tied to the franchise’s 60th season in 2026-27.
That anniversary season will come with “Eras Nights,” a six-game series meant to spotlight major stretches of Nets history through era-themed entertainment, alumni appearances, in-arena activations and giveaways. Becky Kimbro, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, said the team wanted fans to experience that history in a new way.
“We are thrilled to welcome Brooklyn Nets fans back to Barclays Center as we begin our 60th season,” said Becky Kimbro, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment. “The Classic Edition uniform and special-edition court give fans a new way to experience the history of this franchise.

This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate every era of Nets basketball and the people who have shaped the franchise. From our ABA roots to the generations of players who have worn a Nets jersey, these elements honor where we have been while continuing to write the next chapter of Nets basketball in Brooklyn.”

The reaction from fans was immediate, and rookie Egor Demin was right there with them. In the team’s release video, Demin didn’t hold back on his admiration for the jersey.
“Man, I can't lie to you, that's my favorite jersey ever,” he said in the team's video releasing the uniform.
Brooklyn has leaned on retro looks several times since moving to Brooklyn in 2012. The team brought back its classic stars-and-stripes ABA uniform during the 2022-23 season, a style made famous by Dr.
J. Before that, the Nets wore a 90s-inspired tie-dye uniform in 2020-21 that had previously been worn by Drazen Petrovic.
This new edition connects to one of the franchise’s most recognizable early stretches, with Rick Barry as the headliner from that era. Barry played two seasons with the Nets and averaged 30.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He also owns the top two single-season scoring marks in team history, with 31.5 points per game in 1971-72 and 29.4 in 1970-71.

The jersey won’t just live in the closet, either. Brooklyn plans to wear the classic edition 16 times this season, starting with its regular-season opener against the Charlotte Hornets on Oct. 21 at Barclays Center. The team will also debut a new court design that night.
The uniform reveal arrives as the Nets try to move forward after back-to-back tanking seasons, and they’ll do it without control of their 2027 draft pick. Brooklyn added three-time All-Star Julius Randle in a summer trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, then signed veteran guard Keon Ellis and center Moe Wagner to two-year deals in free agency.
For the long term, the biggest swing came in June, when the Nets drafted Louisville point guard Mikel Brown Jr. with the No. 6 pick. Brown is now the highest pick in the Brooklyn era, passing Demin, who went No. 8 in 2025. The two guards are expected to form the team’s backcourt of the future.
Demin has already shown growth in preseason after a strong summer league showing, while Brown has been sidelined for Brooklyn’s first three preseason games with an ankle sprain. He is expected to make his preseason debut Wednesday against the Miami Heat.
Even with the offseason additions, expectations around the Nets remain modest. Their over/under win total is set at 24.5, which is the NBA’s second-lowest mark behind only the Sacramento Kings at 20.5, per FanDuel Sportsbook.

Nets Fans Finally Have A Real Mikel Brown Jr. Question
Mikel Brown Jr. is finally at the point where the questions around him are less about whether he belongs and more about when Brooklyn will actually get to see him in uniform. The rookie point guard, the Nets highest draft pick of the Brooklyn era, will miss the teams third preseason game, but he has been fully involved in recent practices while continuing to learn Jordi Fernandezs system after flashing promise in Summer League.
For a Nets team trying to sort out its next backcourt, Browns development has been one of the more closely watched storylines of camp. Fernandez has already voiced optimism about Brown and fellow rookie Egor Demin as pieces of the teams future, and Browns next checkpoint is the one fans have been waiting for all along: his first preseason run, assuming there are no setbacks between now and then. Nets Unbeaten Start Faces A Bigger Test As Rotation Gets Stronger
The Nets head into Monday night with a little more of the look they expected when camp opened, as Michael Porter Jr. and Day'Ron Sharpe are set to rejoin the lineup after sitting out the previous preseason game. Brooklyn is 2-0 so far, and this matchup with Washington offers a better read on how the group fits when more rotation pieces are available and the minutes start to resemble something closer to the regular season.
Washington also comes in unbeaten, and the Wizards should have Khris Middleton and Tre Mann back after they missed their last game. Even with Tristan Vukcevic and Jamir Watkins still out, this is shaping up as a useful early test for both teams, especially for Brooklyn as it tries to keep building rhythm while getting healthier in key spots. Egor Demin Is Giving Nets Fans A Reason To Believe Again
Egor Demin has quickly become one of the more encouraging developments for a Nets team still trying to restore some optimism around Barclays Center. The young guard has spoken about the standard Brooklyn needs to meet every night, stressing that the effort and energy have to be there no matter the opponent or the score, and his own play has started to reflect that mindset. As Demin settles into the point guard role, he is giving the Nets another option in a backcourt that could use more stability and flexibility.
That growth matters because Brooklyn is looking for signs that the floor is rising, not just the ceiling. Demins progress gives Jordi Fernandez something to work with in shaping the guard rotation, while Julius Randle has also provided value with his play and his presence in the locker room. If those pieces keep moving in the right direction, the Nets may have a better chance of making home games feel like events again, which is part of the larger push to bring more fans back through the doors.
