Nets Crumble After Promising Start In Blowout Loss

Short-handed Nets falter against Trail Blazers as Toumani Camara's explosive performance highlights Brooklyn's ongoing struggles.

The Brooklyn Nets, still reeling from a narrow 126-122 loss to the Sacramento Kings, faced another challenge on the second night of a back-to-back. Heading into a matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Nets were hoping to shake off fatigue and overcome a string of injuries that had thinned their rotation. However, their problems ran deeper than just missing players.

Despite a promising start, trailing only 35-30 after the first quarter, the Nets fell to the Trail Blazers 134-99. Two-Way guard Tyson Etienne was a bright spot, leading Brooklyn with 18 points and three assists, while forward Ziaire Williams chipped in with 16 points and four rebounds.

Brooklyn was notably shorthanded, missing key players like Michael Porter Jr., Egor Demin, and Day'Ron Sharpe, among others. Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers were without Shaedon Sharpe, Jerami Grant, and Robert Williams III, but their absence didn't seem to hinder Portland. Forward Toumani Camara was unstoppable, dropping 35 points and shooting a blistering 9-of-11 from three-point range.

The Nets struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting just 41.3% from the floor and committing 22 turnovers. With the depleted roster, players like Josh Minott and Chaney Johnson saw extended minutes, with Minott contributing 15 points and five rebounds.

As the Nets prepare for their next game against the Golden State Warriors, they're looking to snap an eight-game losing streak and find a spark before returning home.

Tyson Etienne Shines Off the Bench

Tyson Etienne has been making the most of his increased playing time in March. In what was arguably his best performance of the season, Etienne scored 18 points and dished out four assists, shooting efficiently at 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Ziaire Williams Stays Consistent

Ziaire Williams continues to impress, stepping up as a reliable contributor amid the team's injury woes. With 16 points, four rebounds, and two steals against the Blazers, Williams is now averaging 12.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, shooting over 51% from both the floor and three-point line.

Josh Minott Contributes on Both Ends

Despite not playing in the previous game against the Kings, Josh Minott was ready to make an impact against Portland. Starting and playing 33 minutes, Minott delivered 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals. In March, he's averaging 10.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game, showcasing his efficiency with a 50% shooting percentage from the field and 46.3% from deep.
