The Brooklyn Nets are making a strategic move by signing Trevon Scott, a 6’8” forward from their G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, to a 10-day contract. With just 10 days remaining in the NBA season, this contract likely carries Scott through to the end. The Long Island Nets wrapped up their season with a tough loss to the Osceola Magic in the G League playoffs.
Scott joins a growing list of Long Island players stepping up to Brooklyn this season, following in the footsteps of Grant Nelson and Malachi Smith, whose 10-day contract is nearing its end. With multiple players sidelined, Brooklyn might consider a late-season hardship exception to keep both Smith and Scott on board. Reports also indicate that Danny Wolf will likely miss the remainder of the season.
In his second season with the Long Island Nets, Scott has been a consistent presence, playing in 47 games and averaging 12 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals over nearly 28 minutes per game.
Scott’s journey has been a testament to perseverance. Undrafted out of Cincinnati in 2020, he has navigated the G League circuit, spending time with affiliates of several NBA teams and gaining international experience in Canada, Puerto Rico, and France.
At 29, Scott is one of the more seasoned players on the Nets' roster, just slightly younger than veteran Terrance Mann. His NBA experience is limited to two games with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2020, where he managed to make an impact with six points, two rebounds, a steal, and a block in just 11 minutes of play.
Scott’s promotion underscores the Long Island Nets' commitment to developing all players, not just those on two-way contracts. As head coach Mfon Udofia emphasizes, the goal is to nurture every player on the roster, ensuring that when opportunities like Scott's arise, the players are ready to step up and contribute at the highest level.
