Kevin Durant’s Brooklyn run may be over, but the respect around the league clearly isn’t.
During an event, Miami Heat forward Bam Adebayo was asked to name the five best players ever to play in the NBA, and Durant made the cut. Adebayo’s list also included Kobe Bryant, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Michael Jordan and Tim Duncan.
That kind of company says plenty about how Durant is viewed at this stage of his career. At 37, he’s closing in on the end of a remarkable two-decade stretch in the league, and his time with the Nets stands out as one of the sharpest scoring runs of his career.
In parts of three seasons with Brooklyn, Durant put up 29.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 53.5% from the field and 40.0% from three. He averaged more points per game and more assists per game with the Nets than he did with any other team.
Even with Durant playing at that level, Brooklyn never fully broke through. The Nets reached the second round of the playoffs only once during his stint, despite at one point having Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden together on the roster.
Brooklyn eventually changed course during the 2022-23 season and sent Durant to the Phoenix Suns in a deal that brought back four first-round picks and one first-round pick swap.
It’s been a while since Durant wore a Nets uniform, but Adebayo’s answer is a reminder of how dominant those Brooklyn years looked from the outside - and why Nets fans still remember them so clearly.
