The Brooklyn Nets got better this offseason, but the bar in the East is climbing even faster.
Brooklyn added three-time All-Star Julius Randle and clearly improved its roster, yet the conference has been reshaped by a wave of star movement that makes the path ahead look tougher than ever. The Knicks’ first championship in 53 years set the stage, and then the rest of the East kept loading up.
LeBron James joined a stacked 76ers group in Philadelphia alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown. Kawhi Leonard is headed to the Toronto Raptors, though that move is still pending.
Washington added Trae Young, Anthony Davis and 2026 No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa. Indiana gets Tyrese Haliburton back after his torn Achilles tendon, and the Pacers are coming off an NBA Finals run from two seasons ago.
Miami, meanwhile, landed Giannis Antetokounmpo from Milwaukee, giving Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra a fresh championship-caliber centerpiece.
So the question for Nets fans is simple: how many wins is this team actually worth?
That’s the conversation around a recent SB Nation Reacts poll asking, “How many games will the Nets win this season?” The options were 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50+, with the poll set to close in three days after drawing 11 total votes.
For whatever it means to the Nets, oddsmakers and pundits don’t project win totals based on what a head coach thinks about his team. And if you ask Jordi Fernandez, any number you’re carrying around probably needs to be doubled.

Nets Face A Defining Identity Test Around Randle And Porter Jr
Brooklyns rebuild has taken a more veteran-leaning turn since 2024, with Julius Randle, Moritz Wagner and Keon Ellis all brought in to help stabilize a roster still trying to define what it wants to be. For Jordi Fernndez, the challenge is less about collecting talent than finding a workable blend, especially with Michael Porter Jr. coming off a strong individual season but still looking like a tricky fit alongside the young core.
Porter gives the Nets a scoring presence they cant ignore, yet his style has not always meshed cleanly with what Brooklyn has been building around him. That leaves the organization staring at a familiar kind of offseason and in-season crossroads, one where the long-term shape of the roster may hinge on whether the current mix is truly sustainable or whether another major move is coming. Nets Schedule Has A Few Early Tests Fans Will Circle Fast
The Nets full 2026-27 schedule gives fans an early look at just how much attention this group could draw, starting with a home opener against the Charlotte Hornets. Brooklyn will also open a new chapter with No. 6 pick Mikel Brown Jr. joining the roster and Julius Randle arriving after the trade from Minnesota, two additions that should make the first weeks of the season feel different right away.
There are plenty of dates for the Barclays Center crowd to circle beyond the opener, too, with four meetings against the Knicks and another matchup against Philadelphia on the slate. One of the most intriguing stops comes at Target Center, where the Wolves will host Brooklyn in a game that should carry extra meaning given the trade that sent Randle to the Nets. [Read more 🡒]
