Jordi Fernandez Gets Honest During Nets Skid

Amid a challenging losing streak, Brooklyn Nets' Jordi Fernandez and Ziaire Williams navigate the delicate balance between immediate performance and long-term development.

As the Brooklyn Nets approach the end of their 2025-26 NBA season, they're navigating a tough stretch with a 10-game losing streak. While the team aims to close the year on a high note, some intriguing rotation choices have sparked conversations. Head coach Jordi Fernandez and forward Ziaire Williams shed light on the developmental focus driving these decisions.

Fernandez, after a 116-99 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent. "Williams is a competitor who wants to be out there every minute," Fernandez noted.

"But my role is to develop our young guys." Despite trailing by just one point heading into the fourth quarter, Fernandez opted to play less-experienced players, resulting in a 31-15 run by the Lakers.

With five first-round picks on the roster, Fernandez is tasked with evaluating talent for future planning. He expressed confidence in Williams, stating, "I love him, and he plays really hard.

That’s why he didn’t play in the fourth quarter. He was amazing."

Williams, who put up 16 points and three steals in 25 minutes, understands the balancing act of personal ambition and team development. "I always want to play every minute, but it's out of my control," Williams said.

"I trust the coaches. My job is to give my all when called upon and support my team from the bench."

In the fourth quarter, Fernandez turned to players like Josh Minott, Chaney Johnson, Ben Saraf, Terance Mann, and Jalen Wilson. Minott, leading with 18 points, showcased his potential despite the loss. Yet, the desire to play remains strong for Williams and his teammates, highlighting the competitive spirit driving the Nets as they look to the future.
