Boston Red Sox legend Roger Clemens recently made headlines after a social media post stirred up some chatter. The post in question, which ranked the top 10 all-time Boston athletes, surprisingly left out Clemens. The Rocket himself was quick to address the situation.
Clemens was in Worcester on Friday night, taking the mound for the ceremonial first pitch at the home opener of the Red Sox’s Triple-A affiliate. He clarified that his son manages his social media accounts.
“First of all, I don’t do all that-my son does all that for me,” Clemens explained, as reported by Boston 25 News’ Michael Raimondi. “He calls and tells me, 'Dad, this is what’s going on,' so he put that in there.
I thought it was perfect.”
But let’s not get it twisted-Clemens didn’t shy away from backing the sentiment of the post. When asked if he believes he deserves a spot on that all-time list, Clemens was unequivocal. “100 percent. I mean, that’s not even a question,” he stated confidently.
Though he hadn’t laid eyes on the list himself, Clemens wasn’t too concerned. He left us with a reminder of his legendary career, boasting 4,672 strikeouts.
“When you are mentioned with guys like Cy Young or Babe Ruth or Willie Mays, guys like that. You’re in pretty good company.
That’s good enough for me,” Clemens added with a touch of humility.
So, while the social media mix-up might have been his son’s doing, Clemens’ legacy in Boston sports history speaks for itself.
