Red Sox Linked To Unexpected Dodgers Infielder

Could Hyeseong Kim be the solution to the Red Sox's infield uncertainties this season?

The Boston Red Sox have been busy this offseason, making strategic moves to bolster their roster. Among their acquisitions are Caleb Durbin and Andruw Monasterio, two players who could play pivotal roles as the season unfolds.

Durbin, who was the Milwaukee Brewers' go-to guy at third base last season, earned his spot after an impressive spring training. However, he's currently in a bit of a slump, starting the season 0-for-14.

But let’s not jump to conclusions just yet. Durbin has already proven he can be a valuable asset, and a slow start doesn’t erase his potential.

Monasterio, on the other hand, adds some much-needed depth to the infield. He’s coming off his best hitting season, which should give the Red Sox a solid backup plan if needed.

Romy González is expected to return soon, adding even more depth to the infield. So while the Red Sox aren’t in dire need of another infielder right now, they might need to reconsider if Durbin doesn’t find his rhythm or if Marcelo Mayer hits a rough patch.

Enter Hyeseong Kim from the Dodgers. Kim had an impressive rookie season, but finds himself stuck in Triple-A due to the Dodgers' depth.

With a .280 average in the majors last season and a Gold Glove from his time in Korea, Kim is a versatile player who excels against both lefties and righties. His speed is another asset that could benefit the Red Sox.

While the Red Sox currently have ample depth, Kim could still be a smart addition if Durbin’s struggles persist. He could also be an upgrade on the bench, offering flexibility across multiple positions including second base, shortstop, third base, and even the outfield.

The Dodgers might be willing to let Kim go, given his limited opportunities to break into their lineup. For the Red Sox, acquiring Kim could be a low-cost move with high upside, especially if they find themselves needing a boost in speed and versatility as the season progresses.
