Triston Casas's road to recovery has hit a bump, as Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced that Casas will be sidelined for a while due to sore ribs. This comes as a setback in his comeback from a left patellar tendon rupture.
Cora clarified, "It just happened a few days ago, so we have to slow it down. Nothing related to the knee. He’s doing well, but this happened swinging, so we have to shut him down swinging-wise for I don’t know how long."
Casas has been out of action since his season-ending injury 11 months ago. There was hope, as speculated by MassLive's Chris Cotillo, that he might return by June 1. However, this latest issue could push back that timeline, complicating his path back to the majors.
In the meantime, the Red Sox have made moves to fill the gap. They've brought in Willson Contreras from the St.
Louis Cardinals to cover first base. With a deep outfield and Masataka Yoshida poised as a strong left-handed option off the bench, the competition for spots is fierce.
Casas faces a challenging journey to regain health and secure playing time. Once a promising prospect with an .856 OPS in 2023, his recent .182/.277/.303 slash line in 112 plate appearances shows there's work to be done.
A fit and firing Casas could still be a game-changer for Boston, adding much-needed power to a lineup that's short on traditional sluggers. His return could provide the offensive boost the Red Sox are looking for.
