Red Sox Dodge Bullet As Paredes Struggles Surface

Red Sox's decision not to trade for Isaac Paredes appears wise as his struggles at Fenway Park come to light.

The Boston Red Sox found themselves in the thick of trade rumors this offseason, with Houston Astros infielder Isaac Paredes frequently mentioned as a potential target. The Sox were on the hunt for a big bat, especially with Alex Bregman leaving, and Paredes seemed like a prime candidate. With the Astros boasting an abundance of infield talent, Paredes, a two-time All-Star with a club option for 2027, emerged as a logical trade piece.

Paredes, who launched 20 homers in 2025, might have seemed like a perfect fit for Fenway Park’s hitter-friendly confines. But in a twist, the Red Sox might have dodged a bullet by not landing him. Paredes recently shared that Fenway isn’t exactly his favorite place to hit.

Speaking through an interpreter, he expressed his admiration for the Boston fans but admitted, “It’s not a stadium that I can see the ball well at. I don’t know why. It’s just difficult for me to see the ball there.”

As a right-handed hitter known for pulling the ball, Paredes seemed tailor-made to pepper the Green Monster with hits. However, his struggles to pick up the ball at Fenway have been a hurdle.

“It’s a good stadium for me; I’m a pull hitter,” Paredes noted. “But to be able to pull the ball, I have to be able to see the ball and hit it.

And I can’t see it there.”

In his limited time at Fenway, Paredes has had 65 plate appearances, hitting 13-for-54 with three homers, 10 walks, and 12 strikeouts. While not a large sample size, these numbers suggest that Fenway Park hasn’t been particularly kind to him. For the Red Sox, this insight might have been a blessing in disguise, avoiding a potential mismatch in their lineup.
