The Red Sox are lining up another bullpen boost for the stretch run, and this one comes with some feel-good weight behind it.
Tyron Guerrero is expected to be activated from the Injured List during Boston’s upcoming series against the Texas Rangers, according to interim manager Chad Tracy. Tim Healey of The Boston Globe relayed the update on X, writing, "The Red Sox intend to activate Tyron Guerrero from the IL during the Rangers series, Chad Tracy said.
They haven't decided what day. He is eligible to return Wednesday."
Boston has a day off Monday before opening a three-game set with Texas on Tuesday, which gives the club a clear window to bring Guerrero back. Wednesday is the earliest possible activation date, and if the Red Sox wait beyond that, Thursday’s finale would be the next logical spot.
However it happens, the move would matter. Guerrero has been one of the most encouraging stories in a Red Sox season that has had plenty of them. The 35-year-old right-hander had not appeared in a major league game since 2019 before resurfacing this year in Boston’s organization, and he’s turned it into the best season of his professional career.
In 38 appearances, Guerrero has posted a 3.26 ERA with a 36-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 38 2/3 innings. For a pitcher who spent years away from a big league mound, that kind of production has made him a real factor in a bullpen that hasn’t been at full strength.
Boston does have a few other arms trending in the right direction, including Garrett Crochet, but Guerrero’s return adds another hard-throwing option as the Red Sox try to get their relief group settled with only a few weeks left in the 2026 regular season.
Once Guerrero is activated, the Red Sox will need to clear a bullpen spot. The most straightforward path would be to option someone such as Wyatt Olds or Raymond Burgos.
