Spring Training always brings a buzz about velocity, especially when a pitcher with a reputation for heat shows a slight dip on the radar gun. This year, the Boston Red Sox are having that conversation about left-hander Garrett Crochet. But Crochet isn’t sweating it.
Recently, Crochet addressed the chatter about his fastball velocity not being quite where fans expect it to be. He explained that his main focus is on building strength as the season gets underway.
“I know the velocity will come, especially as we're building up at this time,” Crochet shared. “There are going to be ups and downs, and that’s normal over the course of the season.”
For Crochet, this phase is less about lighting up the radar gun and more about ensuring everything feels right on the mound. Pitchers typically ease into their workload during Spring Training rather than going full throttle from the start.
“So for me right now, it's just kind of hitting checkpoints in my delivery,” he added.
The Red Sox are counting on Crochet this season, making his health and consistency crucial. When he’s fully dialed in, Crochet is renowned for a blazing fastball that can hit the upper 90s.
