For the first time since being drafted, the New England Patriots’ standout cornerback is eligible for a contract extension this offseason. And after three strong seasons, Gonzalez has more than earned his spot in the conversation among the league’s elite at his position.

However, it’s Houston’s Derek Stingley Jr. who holds the edge in guaranteed money, with $89 million total and $48 million fully guaranteed.
Gonzalez? He could end up topping both.
That’s not a stretch. His production, age, and trajectory all point toward a deal that could reset the cornerback market - or at least nudge it higher.
The Patriots have the option to wait, with Gonzalez still under contract for two more years thanks to the fifth-year option. But waiting comes with risk.
