Boston Red Sox Stun Fans With Triston Casas Update Before Opening Day

Triston Casas remains cautious as he updates on his recovery, leaving the Boston Red Sox to carefully navigate his potential return for Opening Day.

The Boston Red Sox and Triston Casas have had their share of ups and downs over the past few years, and his recent injury has only added to the complexity. As Opening Day looms just around the corner, the left-handed first baseman is still on the mend.

Casas, diligently working his way back to full health, recently shared some insights into his recovery timeline. While progress is being made, the Red Sox are wisely opting for a cautious approach, ensuring he’s fully ready before stepping back into the limelight.

“I don’t have a plan to start Opening Day with an affiliate,” Casas mentioned to Chris McCaffrey of The Athletic. “I haven’t discussed with the team if they want me to continue rehab at a facility up north at an affiliate.

We haven’t discussed where I’ll be in April, but we’re taking it week by week. The return-to-play guidelines were between 12 and 14 months, and I’m at 10 1/2 right now, so it’s coming close, but not for this month.”

Given this situation, it seems Casas will need to wait a bit longer before making his return to the field. There’s a slim chance he might skip a rehab assignment, but even in that scenario, it would still be a few weeks before he’s back in action. The Red Sox are playing the long game here, aiming for a fully fit Casas when he finally makes his comeback.
