Eagles Return Home After Grueling 30 Game Road Stretch

Eagles Set to Challenge No. 12 Virginia Tech in Anticipated Home Opener After Grueling Road Stretch

The Boston College Eagles softball team is finally set to play on familiar turf after a grueling stretch of 30 road games. They’ll host the No.

12 Virginia Tech Hokies for an ACC showdown at Harrington Athletics Village. Weather conditions have prompted a schedule tweak, turning Friday into a doubleheader with the first pitch at 3 p.m., while Saturday’s game three is tentatively set for the same time.

Home Field Advantage

This homecoming marks a significant moment for Boston College, as it’s their latest home opener since 2017. Last season, they wrapped up at home against another ranked foe, Stanford. Now, they face the formidable Hokies, adding another chapter to their challenging schedule.

Recent Road Performance

The Eagles recently battled Pitt on the road, finishing 1-2 in the series. Their bats were on fire, smashing seven home runs across the three games.

Adriana Martinez delivered a standout moment with a grand slam in game two. Leading the offensive charge were Abby Ptak (.556), Janis Espinoza (.455), and Martinez (.429).

On the mound, Bailey Kendziorski shone with a complete game, allowing just one earned run and striking out four, securing her first win of the season.

Rising Star: Emma Knight

Freshman sensation Emma Knight is making waves early in her collegiate career. She leads the team with 28 RBIs and has already notched 29 hits.

After a stellar series against UNC, she joined an elite group of Eagles by hitting two homers in a single game and matched a record with seven RBIs in one outing, a feat last achieved in 2017. Knight’s power is evident with eight home runs this season.

Statistical Standouts

Knight’s contributions are complemented by Abby Ptak, who leads Boston College in batting average (.423), slugging percentage (.660), and total hits (41). Her nine doubles place her among the ACC’s top performers.

Facing the Hokies

Boston College faces a tough challenge against Virginia Tech, against whom they hold an 8-44 all-time record. The Hokies have climbed the national rankings, starting the season at No. 21 and now sitting at No.

  1. Their pitching duo, Bree Carrico and Emma Mazzarone, have been dominant.

Carrico, named D1 Softball National Freshman of the Week, allowed just one hit over 11 innings with 13 strikeouts. Mazzarone matched her with 11 innings pitched, conceding only four hits and recording 17 strikeouts, including a two-hit shutout.

Offensively, Virginia Tech is powered by Jordan Lynch (.453) and Addison Foster (.422), both batting over .400.

This series promises to be an exciting test for the Eagles as they look to make a statement at home against a top-ranked opponent.
