Boston College Womens Soccer Is Giving Fans A Reason To Believe

The Boston College Eagles soar to a 2-0-0 record as key performances secure a narrow victory over St. John's at the Newton Soccer Complex.

Addy Kalaw and Sophie Reale delivered the goals, and Boston College did the rest.

The Eagles beat St. John’s 2-1 on Monday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Complex, leaning on a strong first half, a quick strike after the break, and a defense that closed the door late.

Kalaw got Boston College on the board in the 44th minute, scoring for the second straight game after Ada Henschien and Milla Lee combined to set up the chance. That goal sent the Eagles into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Boston College pushed the margin to two early in the second half. In the 56th minute, Reale scored her second goal of the season with Ashley Roberts collecting the assist.

St. John’s answered in the 67th minute when Erin Palmer finished off a pass from Nora Basile, but that was as close as the Red Storm would get. Boston College held firm over the final 24 minutes to seal the win.

Faith Fenwick made two saves and picked up her second victory of the season. The Eagles limited St. John’s to six shots and three shots on target while controlling the game in the key categories, including shots, shots on goal, corner kicks, and possession.

Boston College finished with a 12-6 edge in shots, a 6-3 advantage in shots on target, and a 7-3 lead in corner kicks, while owning 54 percent of the possession.

The Eagles are now 2-0-0 and will hit the road for the first time this season on Sunday, Aug. 23, when they travel to Cornell for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Boston Colleges Pass Rush Now Rests On A Former Georgia Edge

Boston Colleges pass rush has a familiar new face in Kris Jones, the redshirt sophomore edge rusher who arrived from Georgia with some real game experience already on his resume. He played in 14 games over two seasons with the Bulldogs, and he has moved quickly into Ted Roofs defensive system, a natural fit given that Roof recruited him back in high school.

For the Eagles, Jones represents more than just another transfer addition. With the program entering its third season under Bill OBrien, Boston College is looking for more consistency up front, and Jones is expected to be a significant part of that effort. How quickly he turns that familiarity into production will go a long way toward shaping the edge of this defense. [Read more 🡒]

Chris Marable Jr. Could Shape Boston Colleges Defense This Fall

Among the players Boston College will lean on this fall, Chris Marable Jr. stands out as one of the more familiar names on a defense that needs proven pieces under second-year head coach Bill OBrien. The ranking of the Eagles 26 most important players puts the returning defensive tackle near the top for a reason: he has already logged significant snaps, and that kind of experience matters on a unit trying to settle in early in the season.

Marables value goes beyond simply filling a spot in the rotation. Boston College is looking for steady contributions up front, and his background gives the Eagles a player who already knows the pace and demands of the college game. If the defense is going to take a step forward, it may start with the kind of interior presence Marable can provide, even if the full extent of his impact will only become clear once the season gets rolling.
