Boston College Track & Field Eyes Momentum with Back-to-Back Meets in Boston
Boston College Men’s Track & Field is heading into a pivotal weekend with back-to-back meets on the calendar-first at Harvard’s Gordon Indoor Track on Friday, followed by the John Thomas Terrier Classic at BU’s Track & Tennis Center on Saturday. And if last weekend’s results are any indication, this team is hitting its stride at just the right time.
The Eagles are fresh off a strong showing at the Scarlet & White Invitational, where they didn’t just compete-they made statements. The Distance Medley Relay squad of Colin Peattie, Owen Pett, Jack Higgins, and Mateo Bianchi led the charge, clocking a 9:45.20 to win the event.
That time currently ranks fourth in the NCAA and sixth all-time in Boston College history. That’s not just fast-it’s elite.
But the DMR wasn’t the only highlight. Pett continued his breakout season with a personal best of 1:04.70 in the 500m, a time that now places him ninth in the BC record books. Add in personal bests from Fleming, Peattie, and Higgins, and it's clear this group is building something special.
Now, they return to a familiar stage at BU for the John Thomas Terrier Classic, a meet that’s already steeped in program history. Just last year, Steven Jackson shattered the school mile record there with a blistering 3:54.70. This weekend, the Eagles will be looking to build on that legacy-and perhaps etch a few more names into the BC record books.
Friday’s action at the Harvard Invitational will feature the likes of Aidan Brancaccio, Sam Ellis, Sean Fleming, Mac Kittrell, Nick Loffredo, Aidan McHugh, and Jack Morelli. Then on Saturday at the Terrier Classic, the Eagles will roll out a deep and talented roster including Mateo Bianchi, Sean Fleming, Tommy Flynn, Jack Higgins, Colin Peattie, Owen Pett, Theodor Schucht, Colin Shaver, and Roman Sierpina.
This weekend isn’t just about chasing times-it’s about building momentum heading into February, with the River Hawk Invitational on deck at the TRACK at New Balance. If the Eagles can carry their current form into these next two meets, they’ll be a team to watch as the indoor season heats up.
In short: Boston College is flying high-and they’re not done climbing.
