Boston College Suddenly Has A Chance To Expose Florida State

With Florida State navigating a coaching shake-up, interim coach Rick Stockstill braces his team for a gritty and intense showdown against Boston College.

Florida State enters its first game under interim coach Rick Stockstill with the temperature already turned up.

Three days before the Seminoles meet Boston College, Stockstill is bracing for a bruising matchup and didn’t sugarcoat the tone he expects.

“It’s going to be a street fight,” Stockstill said on Wednesday.

He said the focus this week is less about fine-tuning and more about getting ready for the kind of game he believes is coming.

“Obviously as we get closer, there will be some schematically things that we’ve got to make sure we’re good at. These two days is to understand how tough and physical this game’s going to be.”

Florida State is coming off a 36-24 loss to Clemson, a defeat that pushed the program into a coaching change after a three-game losing streak. Mike Norvell was fired after that loss, and Stockstill has taken over in the interim.

Boston College, meanwhile, has already cleared last season’s win total with four victories, but it arrives off a rough outing of its own. The Eagles were overwhelmed from the opening whistle in a 47-2 loss to Duke on Halloween Day.

Even with the game in Boston College’s home stadium, Stockstill expects the challenge to be as much about mindset as scheme.

“Fans are not going to be cheering you and that’s the mental part,” Stockstill said.

“Anytime you go on the road, you’ve got to pack your toughness. Especially who you’re playing.

They pride themselves on physicality. Lunchbox mentality that they have.

They’re big, they’re physical, so we’ve got to bring our toughness.”

Boston Colleges New-Look Roster Showed Something Fans Will Want To See

Boston Colleges season opener gave an early look at what a new roster can look like when it clicks. The Eagles handled Wagner 76-50, controlled the pace from the start and made the kind of defensive statement that usually travels well once the schedule gets tougher. They held Wagner to 30.4% shooting and looked organized enough to suggest there may be real balance in this group, not just one player carrying the load.

Money Williams was the headliner with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists, but he was far from alone. Armoni Zeigler and ak Smrekar also found double figures, giving Boston College multiple scoring options while the offense settled in around a steady tempo. For a team trying to establish its identity early, the opener offered a promising first answer and a reason for fans to keep watching how the rotation develops from here. [Read more 🡒]

Boston College Faces A Dangerous Florida State Test At The Worst Time

Boston College is heading into an ACC matchup that carries real weight for both sides, with bowl hopes and record improvement still very much in play. The Eagles are catching Florida State at a strange moment, though, because the Seminoles arrive with the usual talent and enough offensive punch to keep opponents uncomfortable even as the season has veered off course.

Florida State has already moved on from Mike Norvell, and the reset has not dulled the challenge much for Boston College. The Seminoles have continued to move the ball effectively and have shown they can still put pressure on a defense, which makes this feel like one of those late-season games where the timing matters as much as the matchup itself. For the Eagles, it is the kind of test that can either steady a push toward eligibility or make the road even steeper. [Read more 🡒]
