Boston College Suddenly Faces A New Recruiting Question Before Pitt

Bill O'Brien remains tight-lipped on Kenyatta Watson's sudden exit but reassures the team and fans of continued recruiting prowess and unified leadership at Boston College.

Boston College football coach Bill O’Brien wasn’t offering much when the conversation turned to Kenyatta Watson’s sudden exit from the program.

Asked at the start of his post-practice press conference about the decision to mutually part ways with the former general manager, O’Brien kept it brief.

“Kenyatta is no longer with the program,” O’Brien said. “We wish him the best, and that’s really all I have to say.”

That answer didn’t change over the next several questions. Each time Watson came up, O’Brien repeated the same line: “He’s no longer with the program, and that’s all I have to say about it.”

When the topic shifted to whether the staff is all pulling in the same direction, O’Brien finally expanded a little, though he still didn’t offer any real explanation for what led to the split so close to game week, with Boston College set to host Pitt at noon Saturday.

“Everybody’s aligned,” O’Brien said. “We’re all aligned. Everybody’s very aligned in this program.”

That may be the case now, but the timing makes Watson’s departure hard to miss. He was hired less than a year ago and quickly became a visible part of the program’s momentum.

Watson, a former BC wide receiver and return specialist who played on the Heights from 1993-96, arrived in Chestnut Hill after two seasons as Auburn’s Assistant General Manager. His work in recruiting helped Boston College land a strong batch of transfer players soon after he got on the job.

He also played a role in lining up more than 25 verbal commits from 2027 prospects, including his son, Jett Watson, while O’Brien focused on the current roster and the build-up to this season.

Even so, O’Brien made clear that Watson was only one piece of a broader personnel operation.

“We have a great personnel staff,” O’Brien said. “We have Julian Rowe-Cohen [as Assistant General Manager].

I mean, he does a ton of work. We have Ryan Roberts, he does an excellent job.

Kamryn Rodriguez is one of the best in the business at what she does, and [Elizabeth] Rubright does an excellent job, too. And then we have a lot of other people that help.”

As for the 2027 recruits Watson helped bring into the fold, O’Brien said he isn’t worried about losing them even though they could technically “de-commit” before signing day, which is still months away.

“We got to continue to recruit them on a daily basis,” O’Brien said. “We recruit every day, every single day we do something in recruiting.

Sometimes more than other days, but phone calls, text messages, watching film, talking to coaches, talking to parents. So this coaching staff has a great relationship with the guys on the team, so you just keep moving forward.”

O’Brien also said he didn’t raise Watson’s departure with the players, and that everyone inside the facility is locked in on Pitt.

Boston College's Best Chance Yet To End Its ACC Slide Is Here

Boston College heads into its meeting with Pittsburgh knowing the formula is fairly simple on paper: slow down the Panthers on the ground, keep Mason McKenzie upright, and turn a home opportunity into the Eagles first ACC win of the season. The matchup brings a little more intrigue because the line of scrimmage figures to decide plenty, and BC should get a boost from the return of linebacker Bodie Kahoun, whose presence ought to help a defense that has needed more resistance against the run.

Pittsburghs offense is also arriving with a different look after losing its starter, which changes the way BC can attack the game and raises the stakes for a defense trying to take advantage of the moment. For the Eagles, this is the sort of chance that has been hard to find during the slide, and if they are going to finally break through in league play, getting the key details right in front of the home crowd feels like the place to start. Boston College Faces A Huge Momentum Test At No. 10 UNC

Boston College heads into Chapel Hill with a little something it has earned the hard way: momentum. The Eagles have strung together two wins, knocking off No. 15 Virginia and Boston University, with Klara Mueffelmann and Laila Rosenquest turning in notable performances as the roster starts to look more settled at the right time.

Now comes a much tougher measuring stick in No. 10 North Carolina, a familiar national power waiting at home. For Boston College, this is the kind of matchup that can say plenty about where the program stands, and the Eagles will need another composed showing to keep their recent surge from stalling against a Tar Heels team that still has plenty of talent on the field. Boston College Faces An Early ACC Test As Veterans Keep Rising

Boston College volleyball is about to find out a lot about itself in a quick ACC road swing, heading to Clemson on Oct. 16 before a trip to Georgia Tech two days later. It is an early conference measuring stick for a team that has shown plenty of promise in non-conference play, and it comes with the added backdrop of two programs the Eagles know fairly well from past meetings.

The bigger storyline, though, is how the veterans keep pushing this roster forward. Seniors Audrey Ross and Brooklyn Yelland have been central to that rise all season, giving Boston College reliable production as the ACC schedule tightens and the margins get smaller. With road points on the line and the league table starting to take shape, the Eagles are carrying both momentum and a growing sense that their upperclassmen can keep lifting them into the thick of the race.
