Boston College Stuns UConn in Thrilling High-Scoring Showdown

In a high-scoring thriller, Boston College's offensive powerhouse secured a victory against UConn, showcasing standout performances and pushing their record to 10-6.

In an electrifying display of offensive prowess, Boston College Baseball soared past UConn with a 26-19 victory in a game that felt more like a home run derby than a standard matchup. The Eagles, now 10-6 for the season, showcased their firepower early and often, leaving the Huskies scrambling to keep pace.

Starting pitcher for the Eagles managed two and a third innings before handing the reins to Jacob Burnham and John D Mitchell, who navigated through three innings together. The bullpen trio of Luke D'Ancona, Chase Hartsell, and Sean Hard closed things out, with Grumbles securing his second win of the season.

Boston College wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard. Ty Mainolfi's single set the stage for Nick Wang to blast his sixth homer of the year, quickly making it 2-0. Jack Toomey followed with his fourth triple, and Esteban Garcia brought him home with a sacrifice fly.

The second inning saw the Eagles unleash a five-run barrage, extending their lead to 8-0. Mainolfi's two-RBI single brought in Danny Suroweic and Colin Larson. Wang added another run with a sac fly, and RBI singles from Garcia and Luke Gallo capped the inning.

By the third, Boston College was up 10-0, thanks to Larson's two-run homer. UConn finally got on the board with a series of hits that chased Grumbles from the mound, narrowing the gap to 10-3.

The Eagles kept their foot on the gas in the fourth, stretching the lead to 14-3. A sac fly from Gallo, a daring steal of home by Toomey, and a bases-loaded walk from Mainolfi contributed to the offensive onslaught. UConn responded with a solo homer, but the deficit remained daunting at 14-4.

Boston College added another run in the fifth via a Suroweic single, while the Huskies were held scoreless. The sixth and seventh innings saw the Eagles pile on eight more runs, highlighted by Wang's second homer and contributions from Mainolfi and Solier. UConn, however, refused to go quietly, erupting for 13 runs over the same span.

The eighth inning was the only quiet frame for the Eagles, but they reignited in the ninth. Wang's third homer of the game, a career-high, pushed his RBI tally to eight, setting single-game records for both. UConn managed two more runs in their final at-bat, but Boston College's lead was insurmountable.

Next up, the Eagles face NC State on March 13th at 3:00 p.m. on ACCNX, looking to carry this offensive momentum into conference play.
